Tires for vrs

Featured Replies

I just ordered tires for my vrs, standard 16"

They are only R16 and not ZR16

Anything to worry about???

I'd only be worried if you're planning on driving at a speed of over 149mph. If not then the R rated ones with be fine.

Not quite right, the speed rating are:

rating-grid.jpg

BTW this has nothing to do with the speed you intend to drive at, but what the car is capable of, if you put a lower rated tyre on a car that can exceed that speed rating it should also fail the MOT.

As you can see the R rating is only to 106MPH, so not enough for your car.

Are you sure they are only R rated? as this seems quite low for the size of tyre.

Are we getting mixed up here?

Isn't this the letter after the 83/87 number you have in those tables seen as the car came with R's when it was new and have definiteley gone over 106 more than a few times and not gone pop!

As in 205/45 R16 83W

The speed rating on the above is indeed W, not R.

Most tyres nowadays tend to be V or higher, hence me asking if you were sure they were R rated

Me mixed up!

It was you who told me they were wrong!!! :P

Ok is this clearer?

On tYres what is the Z bit for as in 205/45 ZR16 83W?

Somebody must know :(

they are W rated, your fine

I believe the extra Z (before the R) implies that the tyre is rated at above 149mph, i.e. the not restricted part of the chart Gizmo posted. I don't think its necessary for the Z to appear. :)

Thanks for the replies it looks like I have ordered the right tyres :)

Toyo T1-R's for visit the ring :D

I think the R just stands for Radial

ZR I think just means re-inforced sidewall.

What website did u use :)?

I don't know what he used, but there are a few online tyre places. Camskill, Black circles and Mytyres. I used Camskill. Ordered at lunchtime, arrived 4.25pm the next day.

Just to clarify the rest of the thread (I know its from last year) about markings. After the profile percentage there is:

An optional letter indicating construction of the fabric carcass of the tire:

B: Bias belt (where the sidewalls are the same material as the tread

D: Diagonal

R: Radial

If missing then it's a cross-ply.

Then

2 digit number: Diameter in inches of the wheel that the tire is designed to fit

2 or 3 digit number: Load index

1 or 2 digit/letter combo: Speed rating
