Help an unlucky idiot please!!!

Featured Replies

My brake switch has been broken for awhile. Ordered a new one from GSF. Read the threads on here about replacing it. Everyone seemed to manage it ok. One or two mentioned the small risk of the lights staying on after fitting but people seemed to manage fine. Not me, of course.I fitted it tonight and the brake lights are on all the time. What did I do wrong?? The switch is so simple that I can't think it's programmed itself - more likely that it's the car's computer that's confused. If so - can i clear it with vag-com?? May well have just wasted £6 on a switch, don't want to chuck good money after bad by taking it to a garage.....Help!!!!

you will probably need another switch

But how can the switch be broken? I mean it's just a switch after all - it's not like there's any bits that would be affected like this...

The thing is, I've just plugged my old (broken) switch back in and the lights are staying on too (before they were off all the time). So does this not mean that it's the car not the switch that's confused???

I've looked at that link - it doesn't deal with switches that make grake lights stick on.

Has no one on here fitted a brake switch? I need to know if there's a trick to it???

You've not pushed the plunger in too far have you?

the switch has a self adjust mechanism inside it , if the switch has been incorrectly fitted , as it sounds like it has, then this mechanism will be adjusted too far in , hence switch in "lights on" position all the time , new switch required

even my local dealer admits to fitting plenty wrongly, as ric04vrs says, new switch. There is a link somewhere which shows the service bulletin about fitting the switch, some care is needed.

Thanks guys - think I might order 2 more just in case I muck it up again! Does anyone know where this link to the service bulletin for fitting is? That might save me wasting another....
