new TV , greeted by this when turned on

I have no idea in the world what could have lead to that sort of response Amanda... :rubchin:

I'm off to ponder that. Goodnight

G’night (now this is really of topic) but I meant the previous comment in all sincerity. I think it’s a natural order of things to go this way. Plus it's probably more efficient than starting a new thread (Not too sure about that though)

So basically we are saying buy a couple of HDMI connectors and some STP cat 5! :P

…and pack the telly a bit more carefully:D

Put two in a box as it will save on redelivery costs when they break one ;)

Where were you when the telly was delivered!:D I will suggest this as a matter of course when ever I buy anything electrical again.

When you watch telly (eg BBC Athletics) all the Commentary circuits are sent up to 2,000 ft down Cat5 cable back to the Sound desk where it is mixed into the programme.

I thought the beeb was in love with Glensound boxes

To be fair, baluns are used when you get to those really long distances, but nonetheless, it just shows how capable cat5 twisted pair cabling is for certain applications :)

Thy use Glen gear for some of their busier stuff (although Radio use an awful lot of Glen kit). The signals go into a Soundweb then it’s converted to go up and down a Cat5. They also use a lot of Prospect gear, whilst most other Broadcaster use Commentary gear by a chap called Chris Thorpe,

Lady Elanor, hello, you say your a pro sound engineer and references to BBC make me wonder, have a real off-topic question.

Used to have a drinking buddy called Andy Proctor, last I knew (he is a sound engineer) he was working for BBC outside broadcasts, don't suppose your paths have crossed?

Bit of a long shot!:) (haven't seen him for years)

I've heard the name  but never had the pleasure of meeting the chap personally.

I know of Andy. He usually does Wimbledon and the Open Golf for the Beeb. Afaik he is a workaholic. I think he is married with a child or two if you didn’t know. I should make a point of introducing myself properly to him if I’m there this year. Seems a really nice btw

Tfboy, yes (I'm from Reading originally) last I knew Andy was living in Crowthorne, not far from you.

Lady E, marriage and child is news to me, been away from there a few years, probably

still with Karen then. Yes he's a top bloke, and a fantastic drummer as well.

Shows the value of off-topic, a guy I've never met receives a duff tv, next thing I find out

an old pal I'd probably never hear of again is happy, married with a kid:) priceless cheers.

Good:thumbup::). I would like to clarify I am STILL single (Nothing to do with liking landrovers Colin) and have not given birth in the last month.

awaiting phone call next week some time to arrange for collection and delivery of another new one :(

the box and set are unmarked , but some of the polystyrene packing blocks are broken , which suggests maybe that it has been dropped

thank god i didn't unpack it by myself

Hi Ric04VRS,

Very poor that, but it obviously happens. But having payed a fair bit of money for this one, the customer service does not seem good as you now need to wait until next week for a telephone call, for a replacement new one to be delivered.

With one very disappointed customer on their hands, one would think that Curry's would try to put things right the first day.

Would be tempted to ask if there is any mark down refund, for the inconvenience that they have put you through. If one never asks in this world then one never gets of course.

Best of Luck, and I hope it goes well for you next time.

I paid £2.99 for my gold plated DVI-HDMI lead, Bro :P
