New (Old) Car!

Featured Replies

from £100 upwards on autotrader :D

That's really really tidy! Like pretty much all of that apart from all the plastic on the front!

The view of the rear three quarters is sweet!

Flaired arches and paintwork courtesy of Gary, the man who did my Fun for me. Got a sweet little engine going in it, should be good for about 9,000 rpm (not a bike engine either...lol). And he has just bought some rear space frame thing to replace the rear beam, looks interesting.

I really like it, the older Vdubs are the best imo

I like that - looking good tidied up Schern

Old skool...

That is so cool! I agree RE the early dubs being the best , that Mk1 is awesome too , I learned to drive an a Mk1 even earlier than that , with the metal bumpers and different interior/dash....I'd love to find one now in good nick , especially if it was in Riyadh Yellow!! :)

that is really nice! a friend once had to downsize from his beefy ford mustang (proper old school LHD) and ended up with a mint polo coupe in black. always liked them after that.

your one looks great fun :)

edit: isnt this it on piston heads: Volkswagen : Mint euro styled polo

I was looking at the mk2 Golf.

I was going to get a Polo before the fely popped up.

Found a nice Polo saloon once in 70s brown

Classic VW tough as nails dependability.

Yeah , no 'Check Engine' lights on those , eh?...lol!

A mate used to have a red Polo Coupe Fox, I've always liked the shape.

Lol, getting a bit ahead of the game there! Don't think it will be parting company from me for a good few years yet!

Went a bit mad with the camera following a cleaning session. Made some fairly good progress with it so far. I've got new front door cards (black fabric instead of green and grey stripey vinyl), new steering wheel, new exhaust, glovebox lid, dash with rev counter.

Still to come are some black rear interior trims (being picked up Sunday), want some new front seats and then to find a black rear bench. Then it will be onto tidying up the bodywork and trying to find somewhere local to roll the arches for me!

I like that. Can't see the pics at the start of the thread, but old Polos rock.

[edit]

Now i've seen the photos further down, the original subject of the thread is nice too.

That looks SPLENDID.

I think I want to go and buy one now.

They're nice and cheap! You can pick up a reasonable one for around £500-600 or cheaper if you really hunt around. The bits and pieces that I've changed so far (exhaust which is cat back, dash, door cards, steering wheel with boss and glovebox lid) have only cost me £100! It'll start to get expensive when I get the bodywork sorted, but thats going to be the only bit that gets expensive! You can pick up a whole engine and gearbox for around the £100 mark!

Well that's certainly got me thinking. I've wanted a restoration project for years now (I remember when I still lived with my parents (about 5 or 6 years ago) I very nearly bought a Triumph Spitfire to restore but my dad was very much against having his garage used for such purposes.) . If all goes to plan and I find myself somewhere to live that has a garage (or a driveway at least!) then something like that would be spot on.

I'm loving the retro Polo. Ad I think the wheels set it off a treat. Takes me back to the days I used to watch my cousin bomb around in his 1.0 Nova...
