New (Old) Car!

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd post this up on here and see what people think. Guess it'll be a love or hate thing... like Marmite lol.

This is going to be my daily runabout as SWMBO sometimes needs a car for work and it makes sense for her to have the reliable one so she gets the Furby. I on the other hand need to do about 14 miles a day just going to work and back, so I get this mighty 1.05l Polo! 4 speed! Feel the power! It's not actually as bad as I thought it would be, although when I get back in the Furb I think I'll scare myself :D Also as it doesn't have power steering it'll help me get in shape for summer! :thumbup:It's got a few bits and bobs that need sorting, theres a dent over the front passenger side wheel arch which could do with sorting. The exhaust at its lowest point is about an inch of the ground, however this should hopefully get sorted tomorrow. I'm hoping its just a case of loosening the clamp and tweaking it round. Then I'll give it a damn good clean, polish the rim on the wheels up and it'll look a bit smarter.

So what do you reckon? or :thumbdwn:

Verdict:

I like it; it may not have much in the way of power by comparison but it has character (nice colour too btw) and power steering's overrated anyway...;)

Kay.

After going from a BSM astra to an old Skoda estate with no power steering I have to say the only purpose power steering seems to serve is to knacker your tyres by dry steering them, and to have something else that costs £££ when it goes wrong. Add a little more PSI into the front tyres and steering will be a little lighter.

Definitely a

Actually it's a nice colour when it's all polished.

The wheels are a bit out of place though.

Best shape Polo you can buy.

I like it:thumbup:

Wheels are perfect for a MK3, just needs to be a touch lower with the rear arches flared just a touch.

Nowt wrong with a Mk3 Olop, wicked little cars, doesnt want to be too quick they have feck all brakes as it is. Bin the german plates though, never did like them.

Kool. Could be a LOT worse!

I'm going to ditch the german style plates as people have mentioned that the Police may take exception to the D on them.

I'm going to investigate getting the rear arches done as they do catch the tyres and are starting to cause some wear. Just need to find somewhere to do them at a reasonable price!

I like it

Sorry for the 'dampener' - but is the tyre / bodywork combo legal with regard to the amount the tyres stand proud ?

It was MOT'd like it so I assume so...

OK, my mistake, just thought there was some law against tyres protruding from the bodywork etc.

There is... or at least I think there is... I have no idea as to what the limits are though. They don't actually stick out that far, so it shouldn't be an issue. They look worse than they are. There's a guy on here who has a Fab with wheels that stick out and whenever he posts a picture he says "These are not illegal." Maybe we should ask him!

Hedge ?

The wheels are ok for an MOT, I have seen far worse,

I quiet like the car, but for a runabout would have picked something a bit more standard. I hate to think how much that is to insure, compared to a standard polo.

Pretty sure there is nothing in the testers manual that you can fail a car that the wheel protrude the bodywork.

However that doesnt mean the plod cant pull you for driving a car they see unsuitable for the road, one of them grey areas. Just because a car passes an MOT doesnt means they cant do anything about it.

Just need to flare the arches a bit and it would be sweet anyhow, or some camber plates for the rear just to give a little bit of tuck. My mate Jamies Polo (although a MK1 I will admit).

Looks in good nick for the age mate!

As far as the wheels prodruding out the arches - yes it has passed an MOT however, it's a Construction and Use problem which an eagle eyed copper may pull you up on! Google Road Vehicle (Construction and use) Regulations 1986.

Aaaah... brings back memories!!!

I had an L reg "Fox" coupe with the same engine and gearbox in and loved it!!

It was a right tough little car...

I too had low exhaust problems! Watch out for the back box mounts as mine rusted and bent downa and so would support the exhaust any more= Exhaust draggin on the floor on the A64!

Like the wheels anyway... but think you should have got the G40 or GT! hehe

Hopefully it'll get a GT engine in it in the future. I'd love a G40 but they were too many pennies!

It's had the rear mount repaired recently according to the paperwork. I'm getting it in the air this afternoon so I'll give it a once over.

Mine's a Fox as well. You can see where the stickers have been taken off on the rear panels lol. The paints a bit brighter!

Well, here it is after a quick wash and brush up! The wheels are a bit of a pain to clean. Got through about half a tube of metal polish doing the wheels and their still not as shiny as I'd like! And the problem with cleaning it is that you find all the little rust bubbles that you hadn't noticed before! Oh well, it is 14 years old!

And as is the law of such things, about 30 minutes after finishing cleaning it it rained... Mmm... beadage

That's really really tidy! Like pretty much all of that apart from all the plastic on the front!

The view of the rear three quarters is sweet!

Looks purely amazing

That exhaust must be fun on speed bumps.

Yeah, it is a bit... it's pretty much just a case of go slow and let the speed bumps lift the exhaust up! Had it in the air and the centre rubber has just about had it, so I'm going to purchase a poly one and see how that goes. If necessary I'll get another mount welded on somewhere and support it a bit more in the middle.

i really really really really really really really really like that, infact i have auto trader open now :o
