Under bonnet sound deadening.

Featured Replies

Just wondering if the Octavia ever had sound deadening on the underside of the bonnet like the Golf or Leon did?

TDi's usually do.

The vRS doesn't.

you can fit it if you want i have done it on mine

My 4x4 doesn't either. Think I might find out how much it costs from the dealer. Should really be there I think, the petrol Golfs have it so why not the Octavia?

The most effective (and cheapest option) is to DIY - I followed WW's lead and did it myself.

Buy some sound-proofing material off of ebay (got mine from b-quiet in Canada).

Pop all the clips holding the OEM trim under the hood (they squeeze together and pull out - after you do one they're easy).

Cut the mat to fit the recessed areas and stick down- rub down well.

Replace trim. Sorted.

Really much quieter tbh, and took all of about 20-30 mins to do on my own...

My TDi has it, so find a bent TDi in a scrap yard and go get yourself some!

SKoda do have to cut some corners so that a) they're cheaper and B) VW can differentiate the brands and keep their 'premium' status.

Having said that, I do not think the vRS needs underbonet sound proofing,as it is not that noisy,I think the turbo soaks up a lot of noise.Speaking of which, adding insulation might cause some heat problems.

...Or in extreme cases like the ambulance on the forcourt of A+E at work, catch fire. The sound deadening fell down from the bonnet ontop of the turbo and then the two Paramedics came back outside from dropping off the patient, they found a nice big smouldering mass under their bonnet!

Highly unlikely, but as its said before, I personally dont think its too loud...

The diesels have a custom made insulation pad under the bonnet, not just a piece of acoustic mat.
