Break Light Switch - Questions

Featured Replies

I have some questions about Break Light Switch. Yesterday I opened it to check if everything inside is OK, because my EPC light is ON, and in the ABS there is error about that switch. On main contacts (I called them that) 1 - 4 there was "dirt" from electricity going - I cleaned it. The other contacts 2-3 was clean - cleaned the as well. The tried is contacts working when everything is in place. When I push the rod of switch, there is connection between 1 and 4, I think this contact is for turning the break lights on. When 1 and 4 close, 2 and 3 open, not immediately but open. Maybe they are for telling the ECU you pressed the break pedal, so it disable the acc. pedal.

So can my switch be faulty, because when my skoda ('99) was racing car cables 2 and 3 were cut so you can drive with left foot breaking. Now when the cables are welded on their places I can accelerate when my break pedal i pressed again.

My VAG-COM interface is KKL so I can't get inside the engine to read its errors.

Can some one give me wiring diagrams of break light switch to check if cables are going to ECU or they are cut on other place too

The wire colours are probably -

Pin1 - Red/Black - 10a Fuse SB2

Pin2 - Blue/Red - Unknown

Pin3 - Black/Green - To ECU

Pin4 - Black/Red - To Bulb

Well I found little info in AutoData (http://harrier.marmalad.com/skoda/breakswitch.jpg). It looks like my switch is working properly, so tomorrow I'll check the wiring to the ECU. I think it is strange when the two microswitches in the main break light switch are connected to be able to accelerate when break pedal is depressed. I hope to find the problem, so and the error in ABS goes off :)

I think I solved my problem. Today I checked the cables to ECU, and one of them was broken somewhere. So maybe now everything is OK, at least error in the ABS is gone. I have another question? Should my revs go down when I pres break pedal?

Sorry for my endless questions but I want to know my car as well as I can so when I have problems, to be able to solve them

Yes the revs should drop when the brake is pressed.
