Replacing door locks? Would this be easy?

SKODA FABIA DOOR LOCK SET on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 23-Apr-08 22:11:26 BST)

If I bought this instead of a door-lock refurb kit ???

I only have one working door barrel at the moment. I use a key similar to the one in the auction to open my door from the passenger side, then use the vRS flip-key to start the car. Would I be able to easily fit these locks, and would it need any coding to work with that key?

Thanks. :)

You would need the key to work with the imobiliser.

Why not just buy a set of keys off a written off fabia VRS and use them or are there issues with the key and the convenience unit?

Coding is the issue. I already have a different ignition key coded, than I use for the door lock. :) Just wondered if I would need to recode with vagcom once I have thse new barrels in?

Would solve all the issues if I could get the absolute method of fitting my spare vRS convenience ECU without cocking something up and making my car undriveable.....

I don't see why anything would need coding as long as you use the old transponder with the new locks / blade.

Why not buy the lock set and get a new blade cut for your flip key to match the lock set, I have used a company before who will cut one from an e-mailed photo. Replace the blade in the flip key (they are held in with a roll pin), then you can use your flip key without having to re-code anything. Obviously the original key that comes with the lock set will need coding to the immobiliser if you ever need it to start the car.
