Rear Projection TV Trouble?????

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have a rear projection TV (Toshiba), it's about 4 years old and it seems to be playing up.

It was fine before we went out for a walk when I switched it off but when we came back and switched it on, none of the colours seem to be together??? the blue seems to be ghosting to the right of the picture???

Anybody had any experience with this in the past they can shed some light on before I get a person to look at it?

Thanks,

Ben

At 4years old it could possibly be the lamp on its way out?

My bravia rear pro has an amber warning light on front of tv (next to stan-by indicator) for warning of impending lamp failure, don't know if Toshiba's had such an indicator?

Getting an engineer to come out could be costly, given the way tv's have moved on might not be worth spending too much on. If you provide me with model no. I'll post a question on AV forums (am a member) for you, they are very good but like full model numbers etc.:)

I did find out that it may be something to do with 'convergence' of the colours.

The blue seems to be offset from the rest of the picture???

Ben

convergence is a setting in the menus of most RP tellys.. you should be able to correct it..

Update to my TV problem....

Now the TV won't switch on, it makes a click noise but then switches off straight away?

Has anybody had this happen to them? if it's really knackered and will cost loads to repair, I'll get rid of it for an LCD.

Cheers.

I don’t know much about Convergence errors on RP tellies, but I have often seen convergence errors in TV cameras and recordings. I would assume that if your RP telly is a 3 beam type (RGB) then there will be a grid of some sort in the menu that will help you realign the images to fall on top of each other accurately. Convergence is just that, the aligning for the 3 guns to be coincident.

Might be a sign of somethng els though if it has suddenly lost convergance to a great degree. Good luck:thumbup:

Thanks, I tried that the other day and the blue would not quite line up again, so I knew that needed doing but now it just won't switch on at all. poxy thing...

Sounds like the bulb has gone if you ask me, SAGEMS were the worst for this in my experience.

That's what I'm now leaning towards, god knows how much that's gonna be but if it's loads, I'll have to buy a 40 odd inch plasma instead....:D

Can't see the point spending loads on it as its 5 years old now and a big lump in the corner.

Now you mention the indicator, there was a green light flashing on and off slowly, perhaps thats what it's saying..bulb gone:mad:

Yeah if its gone just say bye bye, i imagine bulbs are expensive enough, even more expensive in your case as sourcing for a 5 year old model will be a bitch. And big plasmas are so cheap these days why would you want too, i always hated DLP tv's theyre just ridiculously huge.

Just had a look and the bulbs seem to be in the region of £200  EACH!!

Also the convergence had gone so this needed sorting out too (repair chap said this would be somewhere around £130 - 150 to repair before this), so I'm gonna ask the local shop for an estimate regarding the latest problem but I'm not getting it fixed if it's too much.
