hiccups

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, my 1.8T has a problem that occurs in 2 different ways.

  1. When I start the engine when its cold, it idles at 1250 (normal) but whereas it used to drop and hold at 1000 and hold, it now drops to 500. The ecu blips the throttle to prevent it from stalling but sometimes it does. When I restart it idles, it sometimes drops to 500 again and I have no power but it quickly returns to normal and I can drive off. If I cruise for the rest of the day it drives normally
  2. Accelerating hard through the gears, the car feels normal. However when I come to standstill and try to move again, the revs drop to 500 and I have no power. Its like its having hiccups. this goes on for a couple of hours before it sorts itself out.

I have changed the top breather hose. Is there anything else I can check and maybe change before I book it in to skoda?

This looks like an issue with the idle stabilisation control to me.

Hello.

I have a skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi Elegance from 2001. Although the car is 178000 miles on the clock it is still full of life.

When I bought it, 6 months ago, there was a leak on the catalytic flexible pipe which has been there for at least two years according to the MOT's certificates.

I got it replaced and found out the turbo cutting off, specially pulling the 3rd gear around 35000 / 38000 reeves.

I have replaced the MAF, Solenoid Pressure sensor, cleaned EGR (was a mess) and, finally, the N75 valve.

Still doing the same. I made the scan for faults and came back this:

17965 - Charge Pressure Control

            P1557 - 35-10 - Positive Deviation - Intermittent

Also when pulling 2nd gear has an hiccup that happens especially if I don't pull it too hard.

I had it checked with several mechanics and I hear different solutions from all of them. The last I have heard was that, very likely, when the car had the last cambelt done, around 30000 miles ago, the diesel pump has not been left on the right position.

The reason why I haven't it reppaired yet, if this is possible, is because they all seemed to try things due to on their speech is allways "if doesn't work......."

will you know what can bve this?

I do not want to seel it as I love the car. Apart this is defenitely the best car I ever had.

Thanks

Could be onset of sticky vanes in the turbo.  How smoothly and easily does the actuator move on the turbo?

Sticky vanes I think; there's a how to for curing that someplace around.

As to the fuel timing, that would more likely cause a starting problem if it was out.
