Uprated anti-roll bar help required

Featured Replies

Right, I've got them in my grubby little mits and went to fit them last night. The rear one is dead easy, even I could do it, but the front

It looks to me like I will need to drop the sub-frame and shift the steering rack to be able to swap them over. Didn't fancy doing it 1 day before the handling day in case I screwed something up and ended up with a FUBAR car. So the rear had to come off or it would have had "interesting" handling.

Question is, am I right in assuming that I do actually need to drop the subframe etc etc to do this job? Or is there an easier way (yes, I know I could cut the old one out, but I'd still have to get the new one in) of doing it?

TIA

I think you are right. I was browsing through the magazines at a well known High Street newsagents, like you do, and there was an article in one of the specialist VW magazines about that very same thing. Can't remember exactly which mag it was but possibly Perfromance VW and I think the article referred to a VW Golf. I noticed lots of pictures of dismantled subframe and shiny ARB.

Who's ARB are you using? I've been thinking of fitting Eibach. Would be interested to know how you get on and what results you get.

Yep, it's the Eibach one.

Got it up on axle stands, took the wheels of and thought ar5e, I'm not doing that! :D

Can't remember which magazine I saw it in, been back to the newsagents & it's not in Performance VW. Sorry.

You could always put the front ARB back in it's box and leave it in the shed but I don't think it will help the handling!

I think you will have to drop the subframe Jon. Most cars have the front ARB going over the top of it. Makes our lives bloody difficult sometimes!

Yep the front subframe needs to be dropped. You can take out the back bolts and loosen off the front ones. But four wheel alignment needs to be done as the subframe will shift and alter your camber.

How much (

I had the same thoughts when i came to do the front arb on mine. took the car to awesome gti in warrington. it took about an hour to fit and they didn't even take the wheels off. it was

Question.

Where did you buy your ARB from?

How much? If you don't mind me asking.

What is the reference number for the kit?

What is the thickness of the Eibach ARB?

Is the kit specific to a vRS?
