Transferring java games to new mobile

Featured Replies

SWMBO's just changed her mobile.

But on her old mobile, she had a few Java games and it looks like they were locked to the phone. If you copy it to the memory stick and then put it in the new phone, it doesn't recognise the game. Also, the old phone still lists the game even though it's been moved to the memory stick so obviously there's data left elsewhere.

I have a horrible feeling there's a shed load of DRM on it (she bought the game) which prevents moving it.

Biggest annoyance is that it's a legitimate reason - she's no longer using the old phone and would happily have it "uninstalled" so that it could live on her new phone.

Any way around it? I'd be pretty peeved off if I had to buy it a second time. It's not like an "OEM" copy - it's a full purchased copy so I would have thought there's no need for it to be linked to her original mobile only.

Thoughts? :(

They are not normally tied to the phone, but some phones dont allow the transfer of java applictions from the phone. For example, my old Samsun D500 does not allow the transfer. It maybe possibe, but will most likely involve hacking into something to get access to the part of the phone memory you are blocked from.

Hmm. Thanky Manny.

The old phone is a Sony Ericsson W850i and the new one is a SE W890i.

There is a key icon next to the phone, which indicates some kind of locking I guess.

Copyright prevents many games being copied - even as a backup to reload onto the SAME phone!
