portable jump start for vRS - will it work?

Featured Replies

Hi, my battery is dead after 3 days not driving the car. Had it 3 times at Steelers and they can't find what is happening, but that is for another thread. I would like to buy a portable jump starter (29.99 at Maplins at the moment). I can't find a thread where someone actually used one and successfully used it to jump start furby. Specification says:

Up to 400A cranking power

12V power supply output

200psi compressor for inflating car and cycle tyres, inflatable toys etc.

17Ah battery

If this works then I want one as sometimes need to leave as early as 4am and can't just wake up my mates to jump start me obviously.

Cheers

Should be ok I guess - but yeah do find out what's up with it asap as I doubt it will last too long..

Going back to the dead battery and its causes - it sounds like a classic case of something electrical being still on when it should be off when you take your key out...

The most common cause in the old days was the light in the boot staying on.....

cheers, already checked boot and glove box - left video camera in running and shut them - lights switch off all right.

anyway, borrowed portable jump starter (the one above) and it didn' work, not enough power , good at least I didn't waste £30

I had the same fault in that my Vrs's battery would go flat after 3 days of not being used. The battery was tested, along with the charging system and all was OK.

After a second visit by Skoda Assist, the technician suggested that I do not leave the Talek plugged into the cigarette lighter. Although the comsumption of the device is small, apparently, this causes the cars' electronics to 'question' whether anything has been left 'on'. The system seems to send out a regular message to all of the cars' systems, and if it doesn't get an 'off' message in return, it will keep sending out a meesage until it does. This is what was causing my battery to go down, as the car would never really go to 'sleep'. I now unplug the Talek, and I have not had a problem since.

that's interesting but I can't leave anything plugged in cigarette lighter as when I switch the engine off I get this beeping noise. Stops when I unplug eg. satnav from it. BUT last time it happened I did not put cigarette lighter plug back in and wonder if this could be the reason ... perhaps not getting the 'off' message?

No, I don't think so - I don't bother to replace the plug, and haven't had a flat yet.

So, I'm sorry, but it seems that we are back to square one.

As to the beeping noise, I have bever heard this, and am wondering whether it is a foreign option on your vehicle.
