Featured Replies

Hello All,

I hope some one can help i have an 2005 octy 2 tdi pd 105bhp (40 000klms)this morning the car let me down for the frist time every in the middle of a junction. the car cut out when idling and would not restart??. i got a recovery service while waitng the 2 hrs for pick up i check usual things noitced water on dip stick for the oil?? the water is clear and clean i opened the filling cap for the water after the car was off about 1 hour and i heard a hiss so this means its holding pressure i cant be the head gasget any other ideas out their i drive a lot of short distances 3 miles or so there is milky white sticky stuff on the oil cap but this is normal with short drives???

Condensation inside the engine can cause 'mayonnaise' if you only do short runs, as it doesn't get hot enough to drive out the moisture. Depending on which bit of the head gasket has gone (if it's the head gasket at all!), you may still retain pressure in the coolant system, so don't take that as ultimate proof of it being OK - especially considering the mayo and water on the dipstick. Then again, I've not heard of head gasket issues on the 1.9 diesels...

Can't help with it cutting out...

Mine did this and left me stranded on the M3. Check the Fuel Pump fuse, as these are known to either work loose or fail, according to the Skoda Assist man (fantastic service!!) who got me going again!

where is the fuel pump fuse

I have a Octavia 07 1.9tdi auto diesel.last sun was driving all day stopped at shop. & car would not start thought it was battery so got a jump t no avail. After few mins of turning key got going again...starts first thing in mornings but as day goes on she won't start up again anytime I stop.seems when car warms up it won't start again...got diagnostic test done no codes came up,at a loss t what it is .any advice

Check the wiring.  There will be some sort of fuel cutoff valve.  I've had the wire drop off (different make) and the engine stops.

I'm sure an adult will be along soon with model specific info.

When it fails to start, does it judder and make a thumping sound before the engine dies?

If so, I would bet my house on it being the battery. I had exactly the same issue and learned that when the engine is warm, it requires more from the battery than when the engine is cold. I changed my battery and have had no problems since. A tired starter motor can also cause the same problems.

Start by changing your battery and I'm sure you'll find it will rectify the problem. Also mine didn't show any faults when scanned either.

Hope this helps.

FP.

Thanks for advice

this is usually because the engine sn't turning ove fast enough. common problems are either the battery or starter motor. when hot the engine has to turn over at a vertain speed before fuel is injected. ifit doesn't then no fuel is provided into the cylinders. its a safety feature thats not switched on when the engine is cold. hth
