I'm sure it's just Scotland that is effected, I don't think there is any issue south of Blackpool.

Garages Told: Don't Pump Up The Prices

Updated:15:43, Wednesday April 23, 2008

Filling stations have been urged not to cash in on fears of fuel shortages prompted by the threat of an oil workers' strike in Scotland.

The plea comes after a garage in Kirkcaldy, Fife, charged £1.45 for diesel and £1.25 for unleaded petrol.

It has since brought it prices down but is still asking £1.30 for a litre of diesel and £1.20 for petrol.

A spokesman for the Rix garage said: "We were charging £1.45 and £1.25 on Monday night because of a misunderstanding with the computer.

"It was only for 20 minutes until the computer was reset."

The Scottish Motor Trade Association said any filling station that suddenly upped its prices by four or five pence was almost certainly profiteering.

He said this was more likely to happen at privately-owned filling stations which can charge whatever they want.

He said: "I would ask them not to do that and I would ask them to recamp.

Motoring experts have also issued a plea to motorists not to panic buy.

Shell is axeing jobs

A spokesman for price comparison website PetrolPrices.com told Sky News:"It will only create artificial shortages.

"Our advice to motorists is stick to your normal filling cycle. There is plenty of fuel to go round."

Meanwhile, talks to avert a 48-hour strike at the Grangemouth oil refinery are continuing at the conciliation service Acas.

Up to 1,200 workers are threatening to walk out on Sunday and Monday in a row over pensions.

:: Oil giant Shell has announced it is to axe 180 jobs in its North Sea operations.

there only be a shortage if people panic buy and stock pile fuel in cans.

Greedy garage owners pulled this stunt during the fuel blockades in 2000.

I remember the reports when the asked one garage manager how he thought he could get away with trying to charge £2/litre when the boarding outside showed a very different picture.

I think Trading standards made him change his mind

sorry guys didn't know where to put this comment on this web-site..Im a superb driver so i put it here.the fuel strikes are now going ahead two 48 hr strikes so the fuel in scotland is going to get lower.. they say it will be months before the petrol stations get back to normal.I just wanted to know how other skoda drivers felt about this subject. If briskoda or its members dont like where i have put this comment plz redirect me to the right place on this form. All your comment on this subject are more than welcome cheers TENNER:thumbup:

When some garages put their price up by a massive amount when the blockade was on in 2000, the locals remembered and didn't go there when they had a choice again. The garages soon went out of business.

I would suggest you do the same with this garage and write a letter to your local paper regarding this garage and his unreasonable behaviour. He may read it and change his mind!

If it is feasable, try not to run your tank too low. If you don't have any fuel, you can't earn any money so I would say you were justified in keeping your tank fairly full.
