Cylinder coils

Featured Replies

Most of you will probably be aware that the older style cylinder coils had a problem with them and have since been modified by VAG.

i got my Mk1 Octavia vRS a year old and later found out that 2 of the 4 cylinder coils had already been replaced. A week after I had the car it lost almost all of its power and engine management light came on. I call the AA out who replaced the faulty cylinder coil under warranty.

2 months ago similar thing happened - went to Skoda garage who said that cylinder coil needed replacing and they wanted £114 for it as the car was out of warranty due to the mileage, I didn't want to pay this as in my opinion VAG had fitted a faulty cylinder coil initially. The dealer told me I could ring Skoda Customer Services which I did and to cut a long story short Skoda agreed to pay for the works - which was nice of them!!

This might save some of you some money.

Cheers,

£114!!!! I've had two go on my RS since I've had it, each time I've had to pay Skoda Assist £50ish which I've claimed back under warranty. So how long did they manage to take to swap one coil pack to double the cost!?

Regardless of who was paying £114 is a total rip off, It might be a genuine mistake but I would be wary of prices charged by this dealer for a while

Just a thought but if the coilpack that failed has already been replaced, it should be covered by a standard component 12 month warranty, regardless of you car warranty which is subject to conditions such as mileage etc, shouldn't it?

Had a problem with these on my MK1 VRS and dealer replaced all of them under warranty and had no more problems, so I was under the impression that VAG sorted the problem and was fitting new design level coilpacks. Maybe not though!

It cost me £30 for a new coil last Fri & that was from my local Audi dealer. I bet the rest of the money of the £114 you paid was for the labour & diagnostic (if used)
