Horsebox's and now builders vans, FFS

It must be nice to live in black and white land.

It's very nice thank you.

My point is that if you comit the offence, I don't see why getting caught be a camera is worse that getting caught by a policeman hidden or otherwise. If the intention is to get away with the offence, then yes, make all the camera's 10ft square and pink so we can see them and slow down, then speed up immediately after.

It's the hypocrisy of speed camera's that's the problem, that and the waste of tax payers money on them.

With regards to not knowing, if you get caught by a fixed gatso then yes, a bright flash may give the game away, but in the case of a speed camera hidden in another vehicle as per the original post then there could well be no indication you've been zapped.

but you should know what speed you're doing and you should know the current limit

But they don't prove WHO committed the offence, under UK law it is up to the police to prove beyond reasonable doubt who was driving the car not the motorist to prove it wasn't them. Next time a drug deal goes down close to you, how miffed would you be if the police knocked on your door and said they'd seen you in the area and were going to nick you for drug dealing unless YOU can prove you weren't dealing in drugs?

Which is possibly why cameras that catch from the front are "better" than camera's that do from the rear.

The drug example above is not quite the same. If the police came to me and said that they had photos of drugs being dealt from my house and asked me to tell them who was in the house at the time......

but it doesn't waste any of my money when there are so many mugs who are prepared to pay £60 a time.

People say this is a tax on the motorist, it isn't. You don't have a choice about taxes. You have a choice here.

It is a waste of money when there are better options available.

agreed... I'm on the roads most of the day (I don't have any points for speeding) and comming back from work today, in a long ques of traffic (caused by a slow moving tractor) people were all trying to get past the tractor before the solid white lines on a bend began.......

NOW, the two people in front of me didn't have enough room and crossed on the solid white lines... unbe;livably dangerous... I , of course, slowed as I approached the tractor, with no intention of passing it until it was safe, then, to my utter horror, two of the cars behind me passed both me andthe tractor! my utter horror, because if anyone would have been comming, I would have had no option but to be part of the accident.... in effect, these people just tried to KILL ME.

I see this sort of thing every day on the A66... why are massive funds being spent on the cumbrian camera partnership, when those funds could be spent on traffic police, who could deal with all the very bad, very dangerous driving... ? today (sat) there will be 10 vans (staffed by police officers) hiding under bridges, and just off dual carrigeways,et, waiting to book people for being a little over the speed limit (I know its the law, not going to argue that point with sdenny, if they are speeding and they get caught, fine...) but if a car had come round that corner, and the resluting crash had killed the tractor driver, me, the oncomming car, and the two illegally overtaking vehicals, someone tell my GF that speed cameras are a good idea when she's at my funeral....

(note, none of the traffic in this incident was speeding)

these ten officers, should be out in patrol cars, tackling bad driving... there is NO REASON AT ALL, why they couldn't also book people for speeding IF they thought that the speeding in question was dangerous..

BUT, the van that was parked in the first layby off the dual carrigeway, booking people who had just failed to slow down from 70 to 60 in time, is a waste of police time, and absolutley NOTHING to do with road saftey..... all the cars that would have still been at 70 would not have been dangerous..... but would be an easy target for money....

I don't have a problem with doing people for speeding (and I don't have a grudge, because I have been done for speeding, my liscence is clean)

I DO have a problem, with the easy target, when the goverments OWN figures state that speed cameras do not help road safety....

there needs to be more traffic police on the roads, end of story. They could just as effectively keep booking people for speeding, AND sort out the dangerous driving....

That van is 6 years old. My guess is that it's been sold to a private owner, as the police usually only lease vehicles until they've covered 100K miles then get shut.

The problem sdenny IMHO is the police only seem to be after speeders cause it is a nice easy way to nick people and make money.

Yep, and Surrey police wonder why I had such an issue of them not bothering to investigate the arson on my property, or the substation less than 20ft away, let alone the 10 other incidents all by the same people.

Despite handing them the suspect on a plate, sadly I didnt have a signed confession or CCTV. The Evidence with finger prints and DNA was never collected, and the case dropped within 24 hours of reporting.

But in other news, an ANPR and speed cam outing netted them some cash, so thats OK. Oh and can they have more money to fight crime by employing more C.H.I.M.P.S to patrol our streets and make us safe wand warm inside. :finger:

Talivans spend all their time parked up. By that reckoning we'll be worrying about 08 plated vans for the next 40 years!

The sooner Police forces are accountable to voting public the better. And they wonder why even law abiding people think they're scum?
