225/45/17 question (insurance)

Featured Replies

where these original fitment as afterhaving convisation with someone they said as there not oem ill have to inform insurance company? (insurance engineer)

any advice?

No the original tyres were 205/50/17

I havent mentioned mine on the insurance as they are an equivalent fit

When I changed my tyres on the vRS, I checked with my insurance provider at the time (Privalege) and they weren't interested in the change of tyre size.

225's were fitted to some of the early Octy VRS's as there was a shortage of the 205's IIRC

I have 225's and haven't told the insurance company!

I know this is far from authoritiative, but Haynes list the 225/45R17s as a possible standard fit.

just rang up insurance company and itll cost an extra 30per month on my policy.

ken how would this stand legally? haynes say it is but would insurance company listen to this?

£360 a year for different tyres...... You should be shopping around for a new insurance company as that is just a rip off, who insures you?

churchill, they didnt seem to get what i was asking and wanted to know if it was an upgrade or downgrade? But its not anything to major imo and the price was jst a tad excessive!

sounds like a bit of a joke really. I wouldn't have bothered phoning them, just do it. Thing is, now they have a note of you asking you can guess what the first thing they'd look at if you made a claim would be!

Also, going on what they've said, should you tell them if you're tyres aren't the same brand as the OEM ones? What if you use a different engine oil than Skoda originally used? I do hope I don't get in trouble with my insurance co. for using Halfords screenwash, I just love the smell of the pink one...
