Ford Capri

Featured Replies

Having gone back to a rear wheel drive, I really can’t overstate how much I have enjoyed it. occasionally I find myself having a little moment (300lb/ft does that) when accelerating round a sharp bend (obviously with good visibility) and getting onto a bit of diesel etc, but the DTC catches the slide really quickly and make me look a bit of a heroine into the bargain. Mind you the car is truly pants in snow! Bring back the RWD Capri.

My friend used to drive a 2.8i - He told me the story of how he overtook a little old lady in the wet, spun the car 180degrees and ended up front bumper to front bumper with the old lady:eek:

My dad had the first Capri sold in Huddersfield - silver 1600L Everybody in the street came to look at it.

It was really exciting (for me as a small boy) to be in it with its new OHC pinto engine and lovely gearbox - and it looked so much better than all the BL stuff everybody else was driving back then.

Mate of mine had a 2.8 special. One day I was going home from Glasgow at a fair old clip in the wet, was overtaking a line of trucks doing 40ish, about 0.4miles off a roundabout, glanced in my rear-view and saw a car matching the desctiption of his on the roundabout on full opposite lock. I passed my truck (doing about 70), pulled in, he passed me, and I pulled back out and passed the next truck, in about as long as it took to type and proof this!

Having owned three of the big engined Capris (2x 3.0s and 1x 2.8i) I have to say that they weren't as bad as the urban myths suggest. The only times they bit back was when I deserved it - i.e. driving like an idiot.

Anyone with a half decent feel for how a car handles could hustle one along at a decent pace without putting it through a wall backwards. All it takes is some mechanical sympathy and a well controlled right foot.

I reckon all these people who believe they are driving gods with their esp, abs, asr etc, should be sent round a wet track in an old skool rwd car and then we'll see who can really drive..........

Totally agree.

People used to say the same to me when i had my Cossie...

It's only lethal if you push the pedal !!

I have had one or two moments in the 2.0s

I was told how to take your foot off the gas , steer in to the slide to correct  it did work , but hey is that the quickest way?

Yup , RWD was fun , but I dont know if I drove it fast , just driove it

I was taught years ago by Phil Price on a fantastic rally day in Wales. It really helped me with all my rwd cars.

Rally training days are fantastic.

I done one near Elvington, York, and learned loads.

Even got best driver of the day ! lol

Doesn't remind me of the original at all.

I quite like it though.

Hmm...that looks like it would be a good day.

Pity it's 380 miles away. :(

Thats why a few of us are travelling down the day before and staying in a travelodge. :)

Still, a bit too far for me at the moment.
