Strange noise from in dash??

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help. I have a strange noise coming from within the centre console. It sounds like when you stick a piece of wire into a fan when its on. The faster I turn my blower on the faster/louder the noise gets.

Any idea what this could be and how I can fix it?

Thanks

leaves in the fan, do a search you will find loads

Check the heater controls, especially the blower direction (to feet or to windows). I had a problem with this switch getting jammed which needed a new heater matrix (v. expensive), I had a rattling sound due to the jammed flaps. Leaves in the plenum chamber would be the most likely explanation however.

thanks, I have found the guide now so will try sometime soon. Someone did say you can take the pollen filter out and go through that way, daft question, where is this so I can try before taking apart the glove box.

The pollen filter is in the passenger footwell, just above where their right ankle would be. there are 2 sliding type clips, slide them towards the centre of the filter body and the closing flap should pull off or maybe fall off. The filter can then be withdrawn, along with a bunch of leaves. make sure you put it back the right way round. It isn't easy to get to the fan this way, the glovebox takes about 5 mins to remove. There is another slightly less easy way, by removing the scuttle panel in front of the windscreen. You will need 3 new clips before you start, about 50p from the stealer. Remove the wiper arms, remove the clips, they will break. Carefully unclip the scuttle panel from a lip at the base of the windscreen, lift panel slightly and detach washer jet pipes, and you're in. This will give you a chance to clean out all the rotting vegetation that collects in the plenum chamber and prove the fan clear, as it's easily visible. I do this every couple of years, takes about 30 mins.
