Good cheap perf mod? comments please

Featured Replies

Is this a good idea for yet another Pikey mod?:

The OEM setup connects the crankcase to the air intake after the airfilter, in order to burn off oil vapours and vent crankcase pressure build-up.

I've read that by using a catch can (or venting directly to atmosphere by a long heater pipe ended by a small filter) you get:

no hot/ oxygen depleted air drawn into the air intake (and we go to great lengths to use cold air intakes, etc)

no oily buildup decreasing thermal transfer/ IC efficiency

(for petrols) no theoretical drop in octane rating. (Dunno about diesels...)

?? less crankcase pressure, less energy wasted in overcoming friction

?cooler running engine

downsides:

vent to atmosphere is irresponsible, illegal, dangerous to motorcyclists. Catch can is safer.

slower engine warm-up in winter/ during frequent short trips

If the pipe blocks can build up crankcase pressures/pop out the oil stick (?)

Any comments?

A catch tank isnt a new idea (got one for the Golf) but is a worthy mod in my book.

The God of all things VAG has spoken. :D

What I meant about new idea - it's not reported as a performance-enhancing mod a lot on Brisk.

Do you find a noticeable difference with it on Ross?
