Rear Discs worn due to fault, advice required!

Featured Replies

I know I dont post much on here, more of a lurker! But in need of a bit of advice and help from you Guy's!

Just been to the main dealer to book my 05 fabia vRS in for it's 40000 service and MOT. Mentioned the brakes are not good and never had mch confidance in them to be told "Oh they are all like that" to which I replied no they are awful and the pedal feel's solid but nothing much happening. So a tecnician and I took the car for a test run for him to find the rear brakes not doing much!!

They pulled it on the ramps and found the handbrake had seized causing the pad to rub the disc and cause a lip and wear the pads!! have been told they will change the Handbrake cables under warrenty but I will have to pay for new pads and discs myself. Is this a know problem and do you think I should be paying the full whack or should this be a warrenty job or good will as on double checking my old paperwork the Brake fluid has never been changed which should have been done last year but wasnt!

Cheers

Rod

well if it isnt your fault, its a macanical fault? shouldnt you be coverd??? i would still try and get arround it, and if they wont budge i guess youll have to pay?? sooner the better ,everyone needs to stop at some point, and i wouldnt want to cause further damage to the car, my self or anyone else

had the same problem with my rear disks at the same milage

i replaced the disks and pads myself replaced the brake fluid and freed of the hand brake

now i just make sure that i use the brakes to slow the car down and not the engine and i dont leave the handbrake on in wet weather

If the problem was caused by a faulty part (i.e. the handbrake cable?) then it should all be replaced under warrenty....

doesn't suprise me that skoda don't wan to do it though... their lack of upholding their warrenty is one of the main reasons I don't have a skoda anymore.....

kick up a big fuss... I would....
