Very good turn round on the seats, jury is out on the red pillar trims though.

  • I might as well update this. Fabia is still alive just about. I still have a tiny leak somewhere around the radiator. I just haven't been bothered to find it. I have a god almighty bloody rattling

  • Hey man... How did you get the spoiler off? And what was the paint like underneath? Been wondering if it was possible to remove and just polish up the original panel for a while now.. No one ever see

Cheers

I'll get daylight pictures of the pillars. I just noticed how crap those pics are. They make it look much brighter than they actually are.

Here are some better pics of the interior:

Console bush to be pressed in tonight. Hope to have the car pretty much ready for the road by the middle of next week, functionally at least. I'm suspicious of the end links. I might just buy new ones to be on the safe side.

  • Author

Cupra console bush fitted with new wishbone and balljoint too.

I ordered a new tweeter cover for the rear door and a new set of arb endlinks to be on the safe side.

Car drives solid as a rock now.

Pretty much ready for MOT.

Only thing that's bugging me now is a couple of dings (including the one on the drivers door) and the dent on the drivers side sill which my mate is going to pull out with a stud puller, and I'm going to patch it up with hopefully a light bit of lead loading and a little skim of filler if it needs it to level it out and i'll paint it myself.

Is there anything you.cant do? Lol

Oh, don't worry, I'm fairly limited in a lot of departments but I'll have a damn good crack at everything anyway. Might as well give everything a try at least once or twice.

I think the red goes with the white and black of the car if your trying to follow the colours in the vrs logo

Except if you are you would need the green somewhere in the car to finish it off.

This could either make it look very good or it could be too much.

Just a thought...

Ok so haven't really done anything this week. Just bought a new tweeter cover for the rear drivers door and a new set of arb endlinks. Hopefully i'll get them fitted tomorrow.

Still waiting on a door seal too and that should be the car pretty much sorted for now.

New droplinks. It was interesting to see how much movement were in the old ones. Lets just say it was considerably more than in the new ones.

And a tin of colour match paint for a couple of little spots that need to be tidied up.

And this is the bit of the air intake that's broke. I found out that it's only about £5 - £10 from skoda so i'm going to order a new one and just pick it up on the way to work.

So back to the repairs on this jobbie.

Ordered from Skoda:

The intercooler pipe from the intercooler to the plastic pipe. (one of the metal tabs got ripped off)

The intake piece for the end of the intake pipe.

And an Inner CV boot kit for the passengers side drive shaft.

Here's a pic of the new and old upper intercooler pipes. You can see where the pipe hit the alternator and wore away a bit.

And I also took apart the drivers door and took the lock module out to find that this microswitch is faulty. Seems a shame to have to replace the entire thing for one small switch so I'll try and find one the same in maplin tomorrow.

I don't get the orange/red interior parts. It looks so random and non-OEM.

So did a set of scratched an scuffed normal pillars covered in paint. It cost me about £20 to tidy them up. If I can get fabric to 'exactly' match the oem headliner I would have done them that way but that's easier said than done.

  • Author

OK so here's a bit of progress on the faulty microswitch.

The new switch (all tested and working)

The offending lock module

Old switch cut off

So I needed a way of holding the new switch on the bracket of the lock module. Easier said than done. So here's a pic of the metal clip from the old one.

The metal clip holds the switch against the metal whilst 2 plastic studs on the old switch hold it in place. As the new switch had no plastic studs I needed to put some on it. So after a little bit of cutting I had the old switch sliced up and the plastic studs removed from it. JB weld should hold it on there. That's as far as I've got so far. I'm hoping it's stayed where I positioned it and it should sit perfectly where the old switch was.

More stuff sorted.

Fabia door lock module is back in place. Everything works perfectly. Picked up the new intake pipe, intercooler pipe, and CV boot kit today. Fitted the pipes and will fit the cv boot next week.

And I've sold the Octavia Spider wheels and I'll be fitting a brand new set of Compomotive MOs. I just wanted a change because everyone fits octavia wheels to fabias. It'll also be nice to have something very lightweight and different.

SL731183.jpg

yes, very different :p same as luke's just about to fit to his :giggle:

  • Author

LOL Well... different from the 'average'. I've always liked these wheels so this set crept up on me just at the right time.

Well Barry!

Didn't know you had gotten one of these till I seen the Spiders for sale on RMS :) I've now got one the same!

I'll be keeping a wee eye on this thread :)

Also who's doing the EGR delete for you? Would they make a 2nd? :)

Hi Niall

My mate is a professional CNC machinist and a genuis with metal. He's currently got another one of mine to measure it up at the minute and i'll let you know how it goes. We're kind of experimenting with it to see what fits.

Spiders were sold the same afternoon I put them up. I think I have 6 people in a queue waiting for them now so I need to get the tyres stripped off them and get them out to the new owner.

Tonights jobs will include changing the boot on the passengers drive shaft. Fun fun fun.

  • Author

Passenger drive shaft now has a new CV boot. Hopefully that'll hold out for a bit.

Picking up the compomotives with the tyres on tomorrow. Hopefully I might have time to get them fitted and get a few snaps tomorrow evening.

yes, very different :p same as luke's just about to fit to his :giggle:

Mine are MO6's, his are MO5's.

Wheels look really smart! Bit dubious on the red interior bits, may look better if the whole of the top half is done in red, but me personally would return to standard. But each to there own. Good work everywhere else!!

  • Author

As mentioned previously, they were better than the scuffed up, discoloured crap that the standard pillars had been reduced to. To be honest I think the plastic standard pillars are very cheap looking. If anyone can show me where I can get fabric to match the oem cloth on the headliner I'll have no problem redoing them. I think it would have been a lot better if the pillars had been done to match the headliner like the anniversary MK4 Golfs.
