Don't worry about cutting the crash bar, you could leave it off completely if you wanted to

Would this not invalidate insurance or anything like this tom? im not being funny its a completely honest question i dont have a clue, just thought they may be funny about it but if not then its a good bit of weight saving and it provides more access for the FMIC

  • Finally got back on it today after a long time..... carnage!!!! top pipe both with the bumper on had to mod the crashbar leg and make a tighter bend into the top port aswel more tomorr

the crash bar is not technically a structural part of the car per se, its there to prevent you damaging the chassis rails in a shunt, it wouldnt fail the mot if it were missing.. however in the event of a front prang the damage will be more, but then having a massive intercooler in there doesnt help either because it would get pushed straight through the radiator and aircon condensor..

as for insurance i wouldnt know.. but you do raise a good question with that

Surely if it's bolted to the end of the chasis rails, it's going to stop the car flexing?

my map sensor port is here aswel

Great work. Guessing the pipe work will be the most difficult bit to get right?

Pipework is always the most difficult bit!! good progress so far. I think you've done a really nice job on those mounting brackets too.

Are you familiar with the phrase 'whizbit' ?? That's the bits you whiz into the bin you don't need or decide are in the way :giggle:

I noticed the core has an uneven number of bars ie 15... so you will need to ensure its fitted the right way up re inlet and outlet orientation.

Suppose the makers intended to run with 8 bars on the inlet side and 7 on the outlet side.....otherwise it might not make the 450bhp they claim it can handle lol.

Nice bracket

Bill.

For the top pipe what to do is customise the drivers side mounting bracket have a bar at the top and bottom so theres space for the pipe to run through thats how mine was done

Yeah i was thinking of either doing it like that or putting a slight notch in the rail and gong either 45 or 90deg down because theres abit of room but not alot, going to try and get it finished this week, pipework shoudnt take long, going to tig weld all the sections of pipe together so less hoses to blow off and use hump connectors where the joins are, also thinking about painting the pipes gloss black to make them look oem

How did you get on mate? any more progress?

Ive been busy with my friends impreza so havent had chance, might get back on it tonight if its dry

Great little project mate.

Still under the £200 mark?

Yeah just about, its abit more difficult than a first thought, mainly due to wheethe top port comes out of the cooler

Do u reckon a slightly smaller cooler would be better to use??

I don't know if the smaller will be good enuf for 200+ without heatsoak

been looking everywhere for sum1 whos used this cooler and finished it + found a lad on seatcupra.net who has if u want sum inspiration m8..? hes left crash bar off by the looks n ripped the a/c off lol but u get the general pic.. check his last couple of pages.. username 'samussamus1'
