Suspension improvements on 116000 miles, 53 reg, Octy 130 estate

Featured Replies

Some of you may be in a similar position to me - thinking about some suspension improvements on a high-ish mileage car. My 130 diesel estate is a lovely car but at these miles I think it deserves some TLC on its suspension. Has anyone any advice on what to replace/improve to make it firmer/more solid, without spending silly money or turning it into a racer. I just think that the car needs to feel a bit more 'planted' on the road. Any advice would be eagerly received and warmly welcomed.

The suspension on my Octavia was utterly ruined by 120k miles, and that was a VRS with lighter weight over the front than your 130 TDI. I would say even if you took yours off now and put brand new standard suspension on it would feel dramatically different.

If you want to spend a bit more then matched shocks and springs are a good compromise, better performance than standard setup but not as harsh as coilovers. Something like Koni FSD dampers and H&R springs.

I am surprised that the front shocks have made it that far.... I changed mine around 80-85k, iirc, and they are now at 195k, so probably due another change. Last time I just replaced like for like, as I did not want a drop on clearance.

Thank you to both of you for just the advice that I was looking for. Maybe my back seat passengers in particular will be leaving the car in future without such a pained look on their faces.

Or just drive slower / with all 4 wheels on the ground at all given points in time :giggle:
