Well its hard finding a good one. They have all been clocked !

I have pursued several adverts from dealers and private sellers, and I ask the following two questions:

1) can you send me the dates and mileages from the service history book, including PDI and supplying dealer

2) can you send me the V5 doc number to get MOT printout.

Q2 is no problem, and they always send it.

Q1, is fine after the the 3 year point, but there is always an excuse, with dates missing and mileages missing for the first three years.

When I get the information I take a piece of graph paper and plot a time line of the "mileage events" ie Services and MOT's and see if its consistent, no gaps, no overlaps etc. I'm thinking of writing some software to do it for me.

So if anyone knows of a Skoda Octavia, 55 or 06 plate, 1.9 TDI,  Ambience or Elegance trim, with less than 100k miles, with full history and no excuses, then please let me know !

Getting the real mileage is easy, even if a car has been clocked.

Find a car your interested in, then someone on here with VCDS can plug it in to the car and scan the ECU. The ECU stores the mileage (in kms) which cannot be altered unlike the dashpod mileage.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way.

They are about, I recently sold my 04 plate (a bit old for your search I grant you) Elegance estate in excellent nick with FSH and every MOT, with 57k miles on the clock.

Hey mannyo

Now that sounds good! Could you tell me what a VCDS is?

I suspect its like a T4 for a Rover 75 - which is software that runs on a lap top with an interface lead that allows connection to the OBDCII socket. It allows access to the ECU etc.

This clocking buissness is a real problem and costs a fortune for the unsuspecting.

Thats exactly it, software that runs on a laptop, but it aint cheap. We have members dotted all over the UK who can help you with this, check the VAG-COM/ VCDS section.

Yippee thanks!

Yes I just researched it they cost about £384.

I have spotted a nice one (octavia) in Lancashire with cream leather interior. However it has a DSG which makes me nervous because of the cost involved if it goes wrong. I suppose it depends on how its been used and serviced.

DSG needs an oil change every 40k.  If this hasn't been carried out or done correctly, walk away.

Thanks JRW, I will check on that most carefully.

The pragmatist in me says leave it alone, but the hedonist in me leaves me weak when I see the unmarked cream leather!!

Also the DSG seems to make it go up from a band D (1.9 TDi) to band G in tax ????? Can this be right ?? The 2.0L Tdi is band F
