LED lights for DRL

Featured Replies

A few months ago there was a thread showing which high power LED lights can replace the standard halogen DLR bulbs.

Can someone help me find the thread please?

Or show me links to the high power LED bulbs and if I need resistors or not to 'satisfy; the CANBUS system.

Mr slowcoach is awaiting your responses :dull:

Yes you do need to fit resistors as the LED bulb low current draw is flagged up by the canbus as a bulb out warning, they should be in the kit.

Thank you to Kenny and Tech-Yeti :bearhug:

Just a quick heads up...

The Superskoda LED bulbs appears to be 19mm diameter as opposed to the Benzinfabrik ones which are 14mm - consequently the Superskoda ones seem to be too large to fit through the hole in the Yeti light unit?

Bigger bulbs and more forward facing LED's (6 as opposed to 3) - awaiting a response from Superskoda

Reply from Superskoda -top service as always

Dear customer,

we would like to inform you, that due to mistake by the factory producing all LED light systems for us, we have received and resent incorrect LED bulbs to all customers which ordered YET-P13WDL.

Bulbs we received and resent to all customers were originally for different car, also using same base. But due to different top diameter, it cannot be fitted to your Yeti vehicle (resistor units and blue clips are suitable).

We accept full responsibility for this issue. That means, we don´t want from you to send anything back. That also means, we will send correct bulbs within this month to you with a small gift for you (your Yeti).

If you don´t want to wait anymore furhter for the correct bulbs, please reply to this email and we will refund you full amount for this item and again, you don´t need to send anything back.

Please accept our apologies. We will do our best to avoid any other mistakes in the future.

Best Regards

your superskoda.com team

If they make good on that message that is good customer service reaction-wonder what the gift will be?

I ordered a set at Superskoda's launch reduced price as spares - I was sceptical when I unpacked them as they seemed larger - indeed they are considerably 'fatter' with many more LEDs

Still only a few minutes wasted and I can look forward to the mystery gift now - it'll probably be an Octavia

Be interested to learn what other vehicles these 'free' LED bulbs might fit?

Not the same kit as Benzinfabriks - the resistors are in gold aluminium finned casings with a screwhole for mounting - no instructions in the package...

Top marks again to SuperSkoda. I have always had first class service from them, and immediate responses to any email query.

Just an update: The replacement LED DRL bulbs landed today from Superskoda - BUT NO 'GIFT'! (YET)

They are brighter than the Benzinfabrik ones, having an additional row of LED's. They also seemed to fit more easily and securely - went straight in with a minimum of faffage

I used the existing Benzinfabrik resistors - so it was just a simple bulb swap - and at least I now have spare LED DRL bulbs :)

But do they work WITHOUT the resistor?

I doubt it - but I think when others enquired they were told a resistor would be needed - and indeed they were included in the 'wrong' bulb sets SS sent out. (See #8 above)

I just assumed they would, so just swapped the bulbs.

I thought they had said the new ones didn't need them.

I think not?

That claim came from CarModShop and was erroneous!

I'm sure I've seen an advert for their DRL's in the last couple of days, but can't find it now. Shall see if I can find it later, as I can't get on their site at the moment.

The current ad just says 'No Error Codes' - carefully sidestepping whether resistors are needed :)

They need resistors which are included, gold coloured alloy heat-sink type, just fitted a set of their latest DRLs to mine today, ten mins. work.

NOTE that the LED array is pretty fragile the way it`s "glued" into the pronged plastic bulb holder, both mine broke free with very minimal persuasion while fitting them. I used some Araldite rapid to re-attach them, fitted and working fine now, no error codes

Macdemon ended up with an unwanted pair of the SuperSkoda DRL bulb (referred to in another thread), which I bought off him.

My intention is to replace the Benzinfabrik bulbs I have at present in the hope they 1. fit more easily and 2. may be brighter (not totally impressed with the Benzinfabrik ones).

I hadn't seen this thread at the time but I'm heartened to read your comments. Here's hoping.

I'm sure you'll be satisfied on both counts!

Well, got my DRL bulbs switched over yesterday. An interesting exercise. Took about 15 - 20 mins to remove each of the BenzinFarb bulbs, but less than two minutes to fit the SuperSkoda ones. Got my measuring callipers out and compared some essential measurements and, simply, I can see why the SuperSkoda ones fit more easily.

Technical difference between the two bulbs making the SuperSkoda ones brighter are;-

BenzinFarb - 5 faces of 3 LEDs + 3 LED on top = 18 LEDs

SuperSkoda - 6 faces of 4 LEDs + 3 LED on top = 27 LEDs

In defence of the BenzinFarb ones they were an 'early' item (Feb 2011) and may have been improved since I bought them.

Here's a pic of Kevin with one of each bulb; doesn't take much to notice which is brighter;-

Also one taken late yesterday pm in a local car park (with SuoperSkoda DRLs);-

PS> Many thanks to Macdemon for supply the SeperSkoda DRLs for me.

As it happens, I trawled around SuperSkoda's website @ lunchtime, and whilst I found a couple of places with 'Yeti DRLs coming soon' or similar, none of them actually went to an item page to be able to buy them.

They ought to have them as, AFAIK, others have bought from them already and Merlinman and I have a set of their bulbs.

Puzzling?

Can't see them either!

I reckon a quick email?
