Club MSV are running an open pit lane road car only day at Oulton Park on Saturday 9th February all for a mere £109.

I can't do the Tuesday for two reasons, firstly I am in work and secondly the wife is in work and I need her Fabia to drive!

Shame Oulton Park is a good three hours from me, it makes it a long day. :(

Possible yes, but with a young family at home not ideal.

A world class circuit that is steeped in History, be a shame to miss it.

Here is some classic Lotus Cortina action from before barriers and safety things! flat out through Cascades. Enjoy

Had I not booked Cadwell I'd be there.

Really enjoyed Oulton when i did it in the Ibiza last December

I have spoken to Matt or Mark (not sure what he said) at MSV today when I booked the How Fast day, he said that the 9th Feb road car only day at Oulton Park won't be over full, so if anybody else is thinking of going then book up and I will see you there.

Only a few more days to go until the track day, anybody fancy some last minute booking in?

I have ordered some yellow stuff pads so will fit them on Sunday will give them a week to bed in, then off we go. Weather permitting.

I have been looking at some footage of racing at Oulton, I found this, just look how things have moved on from tree lined circuits, also look at the suspension on the Lotus 21 it is moving like a landrover on the camel trophy!

This car is now available to hire for a season at a time and currently Andy Middlehurst is running it, he owns a GTR nissan dealership near where I live.

Track day was incredible, car went really well and surprised me, fuel consumption made me laugh, just 17 mpg!!!!!! Oulton is a very tricky circuit with different types of surface, Druids is very slippy as a Renault Megane found out hitting the barrier and red flags raised! I can't wait to do another it is great!

Nice one! Druids is a barrel of laughs on a dry summers day and hilarious on a cold winters one! I'm going on the 27th Feb just hope it's doesn't snow.

I also manage exactly 17mpg around Oulton.

I had a really good day, the tuition was money well spent and the car did brilliantly, I can report it used NO OIL!!!!

I marshal some of these track days - lets hope I never have to get one of you guys out of the gravel !! I did a trackday in mine on 1st feb - great day.

I marshal some of these track days - lets hope I never have to get one of you guys out of the gravel !! I did a trackday in mine on 1st feb - great day.

A few rescues today and some training for Marshalls, there were about 30 of them lighting fires and putting them out, in the lunch break!

I saw you there yesterday, car looked very smart and definitely held its own! We were in the Caterham, not ideal conditions for a car like that, constantly fighting to breakaway. Didn't help that I had a constanly misting helmet either......That, along with the fact that it wasn't my car meant I only drove for one session and enjoyed the passenger rides for the rest. If I'd binned my best friends car, I'd have been devastated!! I doubt the Megane driver is enjoying replaying the track day in his mind, that looked a very expensive afternoon drive and definitely won't polish out.....

JohnTee, I was wondering what very brave people are out in the Caterham! Weather was really miserable, the little Fabtastic had a great day, used a load of fuel and turned its red shiny calipers to a dull liver brown (might have got a tad hot) the Yellow stuff pads were great, gave really good feel and confidence on late braking and I must confess the TC did save my ego a few times, especially around Druids and on the turn into Hislops, these corners were very slippery!

I am going through the in car footage now so I will see if there is a clip of you, from the video I have clocked my lap times to be about 2 mins 36 seconds, this is a 62mph or 100 km/h average, however even trying my hardest I only managed 92mph as a top speed and this was along Lakeside to island bend.

I will be going again and I will be taking everything out of the car to see how much quicker it will be, oh and lets hope it is dry!

Here is some footage of the first laps I did yesterday in the Fabtastic, talking to my daughter and myself at times, joining up the yellow cones and trying to apex correctly lol.

But Mainly enjoying my day at the track.

Thanks for watching

JohnTee I found a picture of you on the Renault forum, they took a togger with them, I took family and friends with me and two toggers so I will ask if they have any images of the Caterham and get them to you.

Nice work James

I loved doing Oulton in my Ibiza a coupel of years ago, super quick and super techincal combined.

Thinking that i might use my refunded Cadwell day to do Outlon later in the year instead.

Love the impreza facing the wrong way on the grass at the chicane on the first lap :D

18mpg actually sounds pretty good.

I got that as an average over a trackday for my mk1 diesel VRS.

Thanks for the comments guys, if anybody is thinking of going to Oulton Park later this year I will go again without hesitation.

I could have done with some of you there as the Renault club were there, so were the MX5 types and the Honda guys too, I was the only Skoda!!!!!

A bloke with WOMBLE on his reg plate had a Megane RS 265 or something like that, it had yellow tape on the steering wheel so he knew where straight ahead was and he also had OMP driving gloves and driving shoes etc, the real deal if you get what I mean? Anyway, of all the cars that went out and all the places where you can get it wrong, he was the only one that did, just after the left before turning into Druids he managed to get it wrong and slide into the barrier, wing, headlight, bumper, bonnet and wheel not to mention breaking my concentration with the red flags :giggle: wouldn't wish it on anybody..

So from a complete novice never done a track day person to a, I want to go again person, can't wait for CC.

I think the sporty Renaults have a yellow marker on the steering wheel as standard so we can excuse him that one.

The gloves, shoes and lack of talent we cannot forgive though

I have some more in car up loading to youtube, it takes ages, this one shows a few spins, a few passes and me being passed by a 63 AMG merc and an EVO 5 with 400 bhp, he didn't get away that quick.... Honest.

Final video now, can't waste anymore of my life with the uber slow uploads to youtube, this is an edit of the whole day and shows some of the other cars.

What happened around 6 minutes in?

There is debris everywhere before an around Druids and then a red flag and circuit car but i can't see a stricken damaged vehicle?

I'm going to guess that that AMG had some shove too. Jesus it was moving!

James, thanks for the link, I think my mate has already been in contact to order a copy of the picture. The video is great, and the AMG sounded fantastic as he gunned it. Definitely need a lottery win.....
