Helix SMF clutch much lighter than Sachs organic

Featured Replies

Just had a Helix SMF/clutch kit fitted (normal fast road one) and it feels MUCH lighter than my Sachs performance DMF setup.......

Is this because SMF requires less clamping forces?

My DMF/ release bearing was on its lasts legs?

Or is this just normal?

Car feels more nippy like a petrol, with more power throught the gear range, but I miss the power delivery from the DMF if that makes any sense? Or do I need to change my driving style?

Any input would be great!

Many thanks

They are quite light!

The fact you have a new release bearing will help no end

My helix was slightly heavier than my sachs

Should be getting better pick up with the smf compared to dmf (less transmission loses)

mobz - would be very interested to hear how/why you feel the power delivery is different with the DMF over the SMF, also how bad are you finding the chatter at idle ?

Helix chatter is rather quiet from the outside but definitely noticeable from the inside. Chatter isn't too bat with the Helix (Ali at Unit18 said its one of the quietist) I tend to keep the clutch depressed anyway (habit from having the Sachs I think, not sure why)

Power delivery is immediate whereas the DMF/Sachs had a slight delay, felt more of a kick back which really liked!

Maybe this can be resolved with a tweak to the map/change of driving style (tbh I'm not entirely sure yet as its still early days)

Hope that helps buddy : )

Yo Big Jase circa 3.5/4k+ rpm does your transmission area vibrate? Or is that due to the polybush dogbone mount?

Mine has defo increased, but surely it's expected due to the SMF? Or is it the sound of my tranny dying?

Cheers

I dont think there was any extra vibes at that rpm!

Going back a few years now though!

ahhh I see, thanks for the input mate!

I'd have expected vibes at the 1500-2000rpm mark rather than 3500-4000rpm
