Guess what's parked outside work? ;)

Featured Replies

Just got back (via an additional trip back out to the shop to get milk as we ran out while I was in Stockport!) - very pleased :)

Now that it's all signed, sealed, devliered, and "no backsies", there's no element of tempting fate by saying I got given a £1500 part ex value on my 124k mile Fabia Blackline :giggle:

So, basically I've gotten a pre-reg SE (with only 10 miles on the clock) for £10k.

Average consumption after putting 60 miles on it (new, tight engine) showing as 45.6 mpg and it's still gradually increasing :)

Because you've posted in the Rapid Forum I'm going to guess what's parked outside your work

Now let me think, urmmm , a Honda

That's a very good price for your Fabia!

Rapid looks good in black

They offered me £250 at first before haggling began!

Agreed :-) the interior's a nice place to be as well, everything's logically laid out and there are no ugly distractions while driving. I genuinely don't understand the dash-board fondlers' criticisms.

Looks like a cracking buy for £10k! Which engine?

1.2 105 PS. Goes really nicely. (Any performance heads who scoff at that please bear in mind that I've come from the old 8v 1.4 MPI)

looks really smart, black suits it. Is that TalkTalk's offices in Irlam?

You buy what suits you. My plan is to go from a VRS to the 1.2 engine.

Enjoy your car.

You too kev, which model are you looking at? Fabia?

That's a whole lot of family car for 10k, well done! :)

Very nice.

That's where a car like the Rapid makes a lot of sense. That's a lot of vehicle for not all that much money.

Spooky. Looked a bit like it. I do work for them now and then and have had to go down a couple of times.

No. Going to get a new Octy. I think there will be a DSG option soon for the 1.2. That's the one for me!

Cheers.

I like the fact that you have changed your black Skoda with a homemade Skoda engine to a, errr, black Skoda with a homemade Skoda engine :)

The mpg got up to 47 before I took a drive directly through Warrington town centre and back again which knocked it down a bit - stupid traffic lights :-(

I'm surprised at just how early the maxi dot is recommending I change gears though, I thought I was a sedate driver before I had a go at taking it's advice!

Yes, it does cope though if you do what you're told!

It's possible to drive that engine very relaxed yet still keep up with the traffic pretty well, and that's when you reap the MPG rewards.

Unless it's in a yeti shaped body :(

Just been to parents and back (through Warrington town centre on the way, M56 on the way back) ......

If I can keep that up I'll be more than happy :)

I don't have any confidence in that average MPG figure on the display. I have a new SEAT Toledo and I noticed that when coasting downhill on the over-run that the instant MPG display just went blank..... as in "--.-". In other words it's not registering the mileage on the over-run. It's only clocking the MPG when the accelerator is applied. That's wrong. It should be working it out under ALL conditions, including the over-run.

As an experiment I suggest necking the tank and then noting the mileage (or just reset the trip counter). Use the tank to near empty and top up to same position in the neck. Calculate litres you just bought to gallons (multiply by 0.22). Divide mileage by gallons and I bet its nothing like the average displayed on the matrix.

Yeah, I do plan on doing that, filled it up on Friday and will update on here the next time I fill up again.

The display showing -- when engine breaking down hills etc is not unusual though, it happens on all trip computers I've seen, some instead show an infinity sign instead of --

That's probably more to do with the fact that the display has a finite amount of digits that it can display without looking silly. Some cars display 99.9, or some variation thereof.

It will probably (speculatively) have an actual MPG figure stored in memory which will be used to calculate the average MPG.

Otherwise, you are quite right to point out that if the MPG is not calculated when throttle is not applied, then it CANNOT truthfully calculate how many miles the vehicle does for every gallon of fuel.
