TPMS question

Featured Replies

Almost fitted TPMS to my Octavia and am a little confused, but the answer is probably bl**dy obvious.

The switch has four wires: ground, ABS sensor, illumination and ....

What's the fourth wire for and where does it go?

Anyone got a pin allocation diagram for the TPMS switch, please? That would settle it.

All I have is a less than clear wiring diagram...

Did the seller you bought the TPMS kit not offer advice?

As I have done a few in the Mk5 golf

You have

illumination

Ground

Power in (from ESP or ASR plug)

Power out to ABS pump

Pressing the button allows 12v to ABS pump

Do you have ASR or ESP as the terminal used for the pump is different

Thanks Ed.

It was the 'power in' that I needed confirmation of - and that it could come from the ESP button as well. Thought I was just being stupid.

The seller provided me with the Skoda current flow diagrams which (to me) make not a lot of sense and, as they provided 4 different versions (of which I have discounted 2 as not being for my car as they talk about TCS which I know I don't have), it didn't really help.

This is the VCDS scan from my ABS controller:

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 1K0-907-379-MK70.lbl

Part No: 1K0 907 379 P

Component: ASR FRONT MK70 0105

Coding: 0017025

Shop #: WSC 73430 790 00000

VCID: 3F87BA086E4BECE0186

No fault code found.

I think that it needs to go to pin 7 for this pump on a 2007 Tdi PD Octavia. Please correct me if I am wrong as I'm probably going to finish this off on Monday.

Without checking, I can't be certain.

I think the first one, but could be wrong.

It was the first one. Gone in pin 7 on the ABS.

But....

I think I wired the black wire from pin 4 of the TPMS switch to the wrong wire in the ASR switch.

I went to pin 5 and, when pressing the TPMS button, nothing happens.

Should it have been pin 4 on the ASR?

if you have a multimeter test it to see if there is 12v

Pin outs are a pain

TPMS plug on a golf is different to the pin outs on the skoda

I borrowed my Dad's multimeter to test it but must have written it down wrong (at least that's what I hope I've done wrong).

Unfortunately I've given the multimeter back and won't be able to get it until next week.

Was hoping someone might know.

Pin 4 on my ASR switch was black/grey and pin 5 was black.

Pin 4 on the TPMS was black/grey.

Looking back it seems logical (but not always correct) to assume that pin 4 would go to pin 4 especially as the colours of wire matched.

No idea why I went to pin 5...

Did you press and hold the switch. It needs a second or two.

Yes I did.

Held it in for about 10 seconds and nothing happened.

I think I've wired to the wrong 12v wire! When I get hold of a multimeter again, I'll be able to test it again and see if my notes were right or not.

i take it you have taken the 16384 from the coding?

Yes done that and the TPMS light now shows on the dash when turning the ignition on, but goes off along with all the rest (as it should).

It is literally that pressing the TPMS button does nothing.

As though no signal is being passed to the ABS unit either because it is in the wrong pin on the ABS plug (it's not - I checked at least three times before putting it in and again before putting the cover back on) or because there is no 12v feed to the ABS unit from the TPMS switch (most likely).

I'll hopefully update (successfully) on Sunday.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Had a but if spare time this afternoon and moved the wire from the TPMS switch (pin 4) to pin 4 on the ASR switch and....

It works!

So it seems pin 4 to pin 4 was correct and I was a numpty.

Have I redeemed myself by fixing it?

Just....
