What did you do with OPS when changing out unit?

Featured Replies

I'm playing around with the idea of changing/removing the standard radio for aftermarket. Have bought a few bits and just now when reversing I realised I'll lose the parking sensors.

So what did you guys do when changing it out, is it just something I lose?

You shouldn't have lost the sensors and beeps (PDC).

You may have lost the display (OPS).

What have you actually done so far?

Done nothing so far, so haven't broken it (yet) :)

Just going through everything in my head as how/what will be needed etc. Toying with the idea of an android install - have been thinking about it for quite a while but have now decided to look into it further.

I figured I won't lose the beeps, but was wondering if there is anyone who has kept the OPS with an after market system and how.

Thank you for the reply :)

Just realised my post was worded wrong, didn't mean I'll lose the parking sensors, meant OPS :)

Quiet a lot of people have been successful in achieving this; OPS on a retrofit aftermarket HU, including me. Here is a good write-up from one of the members here - Adam: http://www.briskoda....90#entry3151338

Just to note though that I didn't retrofit the head unit. I already a Columbus in my car, and it was only the ops I retrofitted given I only had pdc in the first place...

Thank you for the links, will go through it all properly in a minute. Just wanted to confirm, currently I have the OPS on my Bolero unit, so I have all the modules, etc and from what I have read so far those posts are about installing/upgrading the certain modules where it wasn't fitted before?

If you have ops already you can ignore my post. You just need to source a head unit that still integrates with the existing modules and wiring and you will keep ops. A Columbus will work for sure and there are others but also others who will know more than me in the latter respect.

See I'm being adventurous here and looking at replacing my Bolero with a Nexus 7 android tablet - was looking at getting the Columbus unit but for the money and because I've been wanting to try this for a while I thought I'd give this a go first :)

Just to throw a spanner in the works huh ;)

So wondering how that would fit??

I'm not sure if it will yet. Will need some bits made/altered. Will start a proper thread if I decide to go ahead with it.

Main question on this part was more if anyone has managed to get OPS working with an aftermarket unit and how that was done. :-)

I think but will stand corrected if wrong that certain head units are designed to integrate with the canbus of vw skoda etc. Whether a tablet can be made to do so is probably your question.

I imagine it can. People have been using ipads as headunits for years now so cant see why an android tablet will be much different

And how are you planning to connect the Tablet to the Car for communication via CANBUS?

Hello everybody,

I plan to change my actual HU Swing (RCD310) with a Pioneer AVH-X8500BT, to get bluetooth, SD card, USB, tv out for rear lcd.

My car has OPS ( rear parking sensors ), no SWC (steering wheel controls).

I will loose climatronic info - no problem - but also OPS display. What about the beeps from parking unit ? In Superb 2 MY 2010 there is also a Buzzer inside car ? or the sound goes only to HU ?

As I see for the moment if I want actual info on my new unit I need a CAN BUS interface between car and new Pioneer - about 80£ -

Or, I can add if possible just a cheap buzzer to my parking unit - can I live with that ?

Cheers,

Stefan

Pretty sure there is a physical buzzer yes (assuming it is like the Octavia) so you will keep the sound, if not the display.
