Gear lever gaiter

Featured Replies

The gaiter on our HTP has pulled out of the mounting ring, no parts appear to be broken - so why is it almost impossible to put back together??

Has anyone managed this, or replaced their gaiter?

The gear lever gaiter is a very tight fit. Find it strange that it came out in the first place. Are you sure nothing is broken? If not, position it correctly and shove it back in with a good push.

We have a similar problem in our 58 plate Greenline, but on ours the gaitor is still in, it's the mounting ring that has come out of the centre console. No matter how I try, it won't re-seat. Hopefully in the warmer weather it may stay in place, before I resort to the needle files in the locating slots.

The ring on our will re-seat easily, it's the gaiter that's pulled out of the ring that is the problem.

For info - The underside of the ring has a notch which fits into a similar notch on the handbrake side of the hole .

Sorry, I thought the ring had come out. You need to get the ring out to work on it. Use a trim remover or small screwdriver but be careful - you don't want to damage it. I think the gaiter is stapled to the ring. Try re-stapling it or even gluing it. Make sure you line everything up right then re-fit the gear lever (the big nut at the bottom turns 90% but can't remember which way. Then push the ring back in. Best of luck.

Managed to fix this tonight, and is it ever fiddly!

I clipped the decorative silver ring to the base, and then fed the gaiter into the gap a mil at a time with a set of mega small precision screwdrivers. It took an hour, and I never want to do it again!
