car passed mot but with an advisory that one of the led bulb or strips in o/s mirror had gone. asked them to replace it and the reply was... we will so long as you take responsibility for the mirror as the glass cost 400 plus vat.???? eh? ok, so while they fix that, who will take responsibility for my work!!! finalky, the salesman stepped in to take responsibility. totally weird situation.

Do you have the auto dimming side mirrors? Could be the glass on those is expensive. I've heard it is...but not 400 pictures of the Queen expensive!

yes it is the auto dimming mirror, thats why the glass is so expensive. i have never been told by anyone before that i am responsible for their breakages!

The LEDs in the wing mirror went on one of mine (none dimming). The car was only 3.5 years old. What with all the chat about LEDs lasting virtually forever I explained that although the car was slightly out of warranty I would have thought it should be a free replacement.

The dealership refused and said there was no inherent fault (despite me seeing several posts about the same faults here) and promptly charged me £38 for a replacement.

You need to be careful releasing the glass but that's not difficult unless you are really hamfisted. I'm not sure where the £400 would have come from - maybe they expected to break the carrier as well as the glass

I was told that the side repeater would be a MOT fail so I paid £ 60 to get it replaced. The part was £ 40 as its a sealed unit. I have puddle lights so a tad more expensive.

I think it actually costs £190 (possibly +VAT) for replacement external auto dimming mirror glass.

As mentioned, maybe they expect to break the carrier, heater element, mirror motor, external mirror housing and scratch and dent the door panel too. Frighteningly, I wouldn't put this past some garages!
