How To Tell The Difference Between Elegance 60ps &75ps

Not sure this is the right place for this but here goes.

I'm looking at buying a 75ps Citigo Elegance I am looking at one at the moment but only have the sellers say so that it is the 75ps and not the 60ps.

How can I tell the difference by looking at the car, not the logbook or other documentation, just the car?

As far as I'm aware you can't. Without checking the build sticker/ engine code.

^^^^^ +1 - can't think of any physical differences to tell the 2 apart.

Surely you would check the documentation though?

Things like front fogs arn't standard on a 60 ( I think ), heated seats either. are alloy wheels. Little things missing or fitted maybe a bit of a clue

At first I was with Auric, as I didn't think the 60hp engine was available in that spec, but after a quick shufty at the brochure it appears you can. The fixtures and fittings are the same regardless of engine output so the only way to know is off the V5 or the sticker in the boot that gives the tech details of the car.

To clarify a bit.

We have a 60ps elegance and it does have exactly the same spec as the 70ps.

The two engines use differing gearing.

Access the data from VAG (I've seen it) and use the speedometer and rev counter to give the speed in top gear per 1000 engine rpm. Otherwise, the engine output in kW is always given for VAG vehicles on the build sticker. A copy of the build sticker is usually somewhere inside the boot and on the inside front cover of the service book.

1 BHP = 0.746 kW, so work it out from that.

I believe the codes are:

CHYA = 60

CHYB = 75

Not sure where on the car it would be.

You need to thrash it in a low gear, third I found ideal.

If the power drops off a bit over 5,000 rpm it's a 60.

If it carries on pulling hard to the redline it's a 75.

And if it keeps pulling at 150+ some nutjob has shoehorned a 1.8T in it.

This could be a problem (feature?) across the range. Am I right in thinking that Skoda have removed the engine clues from the badges? For example, my 1.8 TSi badge has a red "i" whereas the 1.4 has a chrome "i".

My new Roomster is waiting at the dealers to be prepped for pick-up Friday - went down for a sneak preview. It is a 1.6 TDi 105PS but the TDi badge is all chrome. I was panicking that it may be the 90PS until I looked at the close-up rear-view shots in the on-line ads for a few used Fabias and Roomsters and saw that no matter what the power output, the Tdi or TSi badge is all chrome. Starts with the introduction of the new Black/chrome Skoda badge from about April 2013.

As Mr Fox so well put the 60 does not have much oomph where as the 75 does. Having driven both my aunts 75 and my 60 back to back, there is actually a bigger difference than I thought.

If I was to do it again I would probably pick the 75. Though the 60 is fine for what I need it for.

I don't think they've started using standard badges.

My 110 diesel yeti has an all chrome TDi badge.

60PS torque drops off like a stone over 4000rpm...but the 75PS just pulls like a demon (for a 1.0 engine) to the end of the tacho...

Didnt realise the difference was so dramatic, glad i went for the 75 now :giggle:

Agreed - had a 60PS courtesy car and for pootling about, its more than adequate and feels virtually identical around town. Wifey doesn't do slow cars where she can help it, so without even trying the 60PS it had to be the 75 for her..
