Columbus VCDS coding explanation please.

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Is someone able to give me an explanation of the VCDS coding for a columbus head unit I've retrofitted in my 2010 Octavia 2 FL L&K in a view of what they should be set to.

Byte 00     Radio Configuration I
Bit 01              External CD Changer Connection active
Bit 03              Parking Aid Monitoring inactive (Standard) [i have OPS but I think this is something different?]

Byte 01     Sound System Correction
Bit 00              Sound System not installed
Bit 01              Volkswagen Sound System
Bit 02              Skoda Sound System
Bit 05              Dynaudio Sound System

Byte 02     Speaker Channels
Bit 00              Sound System (active Speakers) [something do do with an amp? Don't know if I have one.]
Bit 02              2 Speaker Channels (Front only)
Bit 04              4 Speaker Channels (Front and Rear)

Byte 03     Radio Configuration II
Bit 1                Microphone Diagnostics active [is this purely for diagnosing mic problems?]

Byte 04     Treble Speaker Monitoring
Bit 01              Monitoring inactive
Bit 02              Front Monitoring active / Rear Monitoring inactive
Bit 04              Front and Rear Monitoring active

Byte 05     Vehicle Specific Frequency Response
Bit 00              Volkswagen/Skoda (all) [i would guess this is the right setting?]
Bit 01              Seat Altea (5P)
Bit 02              Seat Leon (1P)
Bit 03              Seat Toledo (5P)
Bit 04              Seat Altea XL (5P)

Byte 06     Radio Configuration III
Bit 00              Standard/Not Relevant

Byte 07     Navigation System Configuration I
Bit 00              Multifunction Steering Wheel with Shortpress Buttons installed [i have MFSW, but don't know about shortpress?]
Bit 01              Voice Control inactive (NOT Japan/China)
Bit 02              Speed Threshold for Destination Input active
Bit 03              Speed Threshold for Speech Destination Input active
Bit 04+05        Display Variant
[3 to choose from, which is best / nicest?]

Bit 07              Communication Instrument Cluster via Operation and Display Protocol (BAP) [White maxidot needs BAP?]

Byte 08     Navigation System Configuration II
Bit 00              Standard/Not Relevant

The items I'm particularly interested in are highlighted in red, my comments in green.

Any help / pointers greatly received.

Many thanks

Dave

Parking aid should be activated (this is the OPS display).

Sound system would include the amplifier under the drivers seat and the speakers would have a badge on them

If no sound system then choose 4 speakers

Microphone is to detect that the microphone is connected and working properly

Speaker monitoring again monitors the speakers and wiring so not needed.

Volkswagen/Skoda is the right option

If you have MFSW then activate that one

Speed threshold is to stop you being able to input a desitnation or voice control while driving.

Display variant I think is the highline option

Communication protocol is BAP fo FL cars.

Hope that helps
