Roof Bars

What roof bars do people recommend for the Mk1 Hatch? Looking to get some before long as occasionally need to carry a ladder or longer load that won't fit in the boot easily.

Yep, these are what I've got. Along with a Thule 531 bike carrier.

 

Brilliant bars / rack, absolutely solid.

 

Warning - they do mark the paint on the roof. If your car is cherished then that might annoy you. However I'd imagine that a decent valeter / paint corrector could polish out the damage when you go to sell the car.

i have a set look quite old not sure on make i can check but they are stamped octavia/polo

I also have Thule bars with the feet that fit into the slots on the roof - don't think they touch the paint though.

mine don't touch the paint either - make sure you get the kit that fits the cutouts on the roof channel, NOT the clamp on ones that grab above the door

Same here, 760 bars, 753 foot kit, 3003 fixpoint kit. No paint damage, only issue I have is I keep losing the plastic blanks for the roof rails, it's character building trying to find them after I remove the bars.
