Great roads

Featured Replies

Having read this weeks Autocar magazine featuring, The Jebel Hafeet Mountain road, 90 min S.E of Dudai next to the town of AL Ain. ( Mil is that near you? recommend a day trip if you can. )

Looks like a race track surface stuck to the side of a mountain. 7.3 miles long with 60 corners and climbs 4000ft. some really nice pictures in Autocar.

Got me thinking are there any good roads out there in the uk?

Start the list with two

1. Butter tubs pass

2 Cat and fiddle ( b4 the police )

Stuff locally to me...

B5023 From Duffield to Cromford (Derbyshire) - Lovely road, couple of nasty twisties to watch though. The FiL has all manner of tales of silly speeds down there on bike many years ago.

Mansfield Bypass - For some reason it reminds me of the NBRing. Nice quick road when it's empty.

A82 from Tyndrum to Inverness

A68 from the A69 up past Kielder, to Edinburgh

Flat out, blind crests/jumps:D , hairpins, fantastic scenery. Trouble is, it takes you to Scotland. :(

Only messing, I love Scotland :D

Hi Lozgti,

sorry for posting a similar thread, but the above road in this weeks Autocar really needs to be seen(pictures in mag)

Were's Mil to check it out:thumbup:

If anybody near Bristol wants to drive a challenging (but unfortunately short) section of road then I can recommend the B3135 through Cheddar Gorge - its very twisty and is great fun to drive :D Watch out though as some of the bends are tighter than you expect and may lead to a brown trouser, seriously understeery moment

This section of road is even more fun in the dead night as you get a real atmosphere with the steep sides of the gorge all around - another bonus is that it is usually deserted at that time which means that the odd 'excursion' ;) onto the opposite side of the road should not be too disasterous

If you decide to drive this road in a spirited manner at night please be careful and make damn sure that your headlights are up to the job as it sure is dark round there.
