  1. Mine is a 12 plate, ( November reg ) on 16000 miles, I'm glad to say I can't identify with any of the problems in the first post. I was unhappy with the tyre wear on the original Contis and fuel consumption (140 DSG 4x4) has disappointed although the recent addition of a Racechip seems to have made quite a difference in torque and economy.
  2. Thanks, for the eBay links I have found these as well as a limited number on various garden centre type sites. I'm looking for the spot lamp types, smaller if possible than those on eBay. The other potential problem with the eBay ones is whether they will change colour randomly, the colour changing ones I have experience of cycle through the colours, changing each time you switch off and on.
  3. That's why I'm wondering whether I can solder cables into them and run via a transformer and or voltage regulator. If I fill the battery compartment with silicon hopefully they will have a reasonable life and operate during winter. We want light in winter as the lounge has full length, full width glazed folding doors overlooking the garden. We also have a hot tub, the best time for using hot tubs is on cold winter nights, particularly in the snow :-)
  4. Thanks life member no 1, I didn't realise I needed to!
  5. I'm trying to replace 1 watt LED spike lamps and to get some LED spot lamps, my Google searches have found that they are rarer and more expensive than a year or two ago. If I go back to halogen ( hot running & high power usage - 20w) they are plentiful. I suspect they are the ones you found. Multicolour LEDs are also common but I'm worried that they'll be a different colour every time the timer switches them on :-(
  6. I have the parallel park version on my 2012 L&K but it seems to only work when it wants to. I've only used it half a dozen times in a year. IMHO the Combi with parking sensors, whether it be a car park space or parallel parking couldn't be easier to park.
  7. I've done some research and found this seems to be what I need. Tree chop scheduled for next week, then it's she'd build followed by lighting rewire.
  8. It seems that 12v garden lights are becoming an endangered species as solar takes over, they're OK but during the dark months are limited. I've got a good and reliable 12v system set up, is there a way, via resistors or something I can adapt solar lights to fit in as they are normally around 3v? I suppose I could wire 4 in series -anyone got any suggestions?
  9. A driver wearing a hat, particularly a woollen bobble hat, reversed baseball cap or hoody.
  10. Mine is a 140 4x4 DSG, just Race Chipped it so it's about 180 bhp, so basically like a 170. My economy has improved drastically and the car has more pep. For £100 and the cost of insurance you can drive a DSG 4x4 with all the benefits of the 170. I love it, at 75 mph ( indicated) the MFD is showing around 60 mpg and at last the economy can match ( or beat) my previous Saab diesel auto. Look at the Fuelly figures they are going to improve.
  11. On my PC all of theUSB ports are working fine using other drives, first drive didn't vibrate when plugged in ( no hard disk activity) second one no power.
  12. Come on moderators, I think cheese monkey or (whatever his name is ) is being offensive, this forum is better than that.
  13. I was just re-reading through this post and I see one comment that you don't need a spare that's what recovery is for, my punctures always seem to be late at night, in the rain or somewhere remote. It also brought to mind a problem with a space saver and fully loaded car. About eight years ago we took a Volvo C70 coupe over to Spain with a view to having a holiday and saving a load of dish by buying the wine for our forthcoming wedding. On the return journey, with the. Car fully loaded ( boot and back seat) including about 80 bottles of wine, I heard a clicking noise from the right hand rear. We were on a very rural French Road. I found a spike, about 5mm thick through the sidewall of the right hand rear tyre which was touching the wheel arch as we took left hand corners. The tyre hadn't deflated so I decided to get to the nearest town carefully. I realised that the spare was under a whole boot full of luggage and it was a space saver. If I had changed the wheel it would have meant trying to manoeuvre an 18 inch wide alloy wheel on to the top of the luggage in the rear ( avoiding the up market upholstery) or SWMBO having the wheel on her lap as a full size wheel wouldn't fit into the well. I now have even more of an aversion to space savers :-(
  14. Sitting in Wales and watching from the sidelines it seems that the London centric parties, whether Labour, Tory or the other one, and the very English UKIP, just see the UK as Engerland until something like this happens. I suspect that Cameron and co's passion for keeping the UK together may have underlying financial interests (oil, the Scottish financial sector etc.) rather than a sudden love of those of us on the outskirts of English (read as UK in much of the media). If Scotland leaves the Tories will be even more dominant in what's left off the UK. God help us particularly here in Wales. Good luck to you Scotland.
  15. Mine always goes to a tiny scale, it shows about half the UK. It's a real pain - so there is a setting to prevent this is there?
  16. I bought one of these from Ebuyers, it arrived and it appears that the drive wasn't spinning. I rang to send it back, "The courier will collect it sometime tomorrow sir and we will let you know after five working days if there is a fault and five working days later will refund you". I waited in the following day - no courier nor the next day, Saturday. Rang Ebuyers - they'd forgotten to book a collection. Collection finally made today, three working days later. As I was peeved the night I arranged the return, I bought the same drive on Amazon for £25 less, it arrived and was faulty too. I arranged the return, took it to the drop off point and got home to receive an email fro Amazon informing me that my refund was processed and would be confirms imminently. That's customer service Ebuyer. Is there a faulty batch of these Samsung drives or have I just been spectacularly unlucky?
  17. We've got a Focus convertible, SWMBO drove for half a mile and wrecked a tyre at 5.30 one day. Luckily the wheel survived and the RAC guy got her a (costly) replacement. I bought a wheel etc from a salvage place, the car has the well, the threaded point to hold the wheel - it's all there. Ford are just penny pinching/keeping weight down. The upside - the Continental compressor originally provided is the best 12v compressor I've owned :-) .
  18. I got rid of a 53 plate Disco before I bought the Superb, I loved the Disco, the high position and clear visibility and the go anywhere toughness of it allied to loads of space, but we were reducing our " fleet"to 2 so it had to go. When I worked I drove a different hire car every week or two and one of the most disappointing to me was the A Class, even as a brand new car, if you do go down that route drive a few - and don't forget that they are probably he'll to work on.
  19. Kist done the test ( link in first post) and it says PayPal is A OK!
  20. I saw some pictures recently of a Chinese built MG TF which was absolutely rotten as the rustproofing is non existent.
  21. I believe the fundamental problem lies with parents and the fact that schools work in isolation. My career involved me in informal education and adult education. The arrogance of main stream education was shocking despite much evidence that working in a holistic way is far more effective. There were demonstrations of this in the midlands in some of the more successful community schools in the 70s80s. Closer to home I managed a project in a massively deprived village where mums attended school between 9 and break when they worked with adult education staff so that the mums would be involved in the lesson after break. The mums and ( primary school ) kids also had homework. During the school year the kid's reading age increased by 1/1.5 years. After the summer holiday they had regressed to where they started. I think there's a lot here about school holidays, parenting, modern families, the TV etc. etc. and who knows the answer? When British forces left Germany after the war, it was insisted that the education of adults be embedded in the German constitution to prevent another holocaust. We ignore adults at our peril as the adults in a child's family etc. have more effect on any child than their teachers. I'm happy that Government doesn't affect me in Wales (where we have our own problems) but let's start looking at the whole problem whether you are in the education system, a politician or a parent.
  22. Mine gives me the option to but I usually just put the message on the main screen.
  23. I saw one of these yesterday and thought it's minute size could mean having a camera with me all the time ( as well as my phone). The reviews I read, however were't that's good.Does anyone have experience of it or are there any similar sized cameras to rival it?
  24. You can see mine below. It's on 12000 ish miles and is DSG. My mileage is mainly city with an occasional long motorway/A road run. The car is far less economical on long runs than my previous car a Saab auto diesel convertible (regularly 46/48 mpg), overall though it is better than the Saab, which suggests it is more efficient in the city.
  25. Use power line adopters they solved all my wi if issues in one go
