  1. I'm glad you posted that Al, I wondered if it was me, my 4x4 is not at all boat like, handles virtually as well as our Focus and is considerably bigger.
  2. I've owned a Mk2 Range Rover 4.6 HSE and a Mk2 Disco, the RR was huge, the Disco more cramped. Mate's son has a 2012 RR Sport. Too small to sit two 6 footers one behind the other. If you've got the cash go for a Range Rover. I was a bit worried 'cos it'll be my buy when I win the lottery and the new ones look odd with the pretend vents on the front door. It'll be OK though as they look fine if body coloured not silver :-)
  3. He seemed to have a lot of respect, even from a ****** like Nigel Farage - no-one should die at 52, condolences to his family.
  4. My Superb Combi, like most, if not all others, has a black luggage cover. I use the car to carry all sorts of things  and bought a luggage compartment protector as soon as I bought the car. However the cover is always marking, often it's from my dirty hands after loading up a pile of rubbish for the tip or something from the allotment. I've tried damp rags and I've also used back to black/silicon type stuff but the cover always looks grubby - can anyone help?
  5. Still love mine and learning about it after a year - three months will drag out but be worth it in the end!
  6. As a parent I suggest you leave home!
  7. I was disappointed, by the title I thought you were talking about the government.
  8. Go Down Sunshine by Duffy Power. Don't know where I got it, it not the Marquee sessions otherwise I would have put a link. Gotta go back.
  9. Welcome, great English, I look forward to visiting Turkey again later this year.
  10. nice car we were looking for the cream interior but bought L&K in the end. Don't forget to visit the Superb 2 section.
  11. Had a similar one and similar experiences to you. Eventually I gave it to a local care home. Good luck.
  12. I use an iPod it's brilliant but I am considering a combination of the SD card and the HDD to prevent leaving the iPod in the car.
  13. I told them, quite truthfully that when I took the policies out it was perceived wisdom to do it. I had a senior very secure job in local government and an insurance policy protecting me from redundancy/ill health. I should never have been sold it. I was stupid doing it. If Lloyds cough up I have three smaller ones to chase -with different banks.
  14. Brought to mind a friend of mine who develops Eco friendly methane fuelled power stations.
  15. I've not banked with Lloyd's since 2004 but always ( stupidly ) took PPI. I never bothered taking them on as I thought I had no evidence. A few weeks ago I found an old loan agreement (1997) in som papers. Downloaded the form and sent it off . They rang me yesterday with all the info 1980 to 2004 and are sorting it all out. Go for it.
  16. Saw a good variety in Carphone Warehouse a few weeks ago - generally well known brands too, from memory £25 up to about £35 this one is £19 http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/NOKIA_105/HANDSET?&colourCode=BLUE&intcmp=SIMFREE_Nok105_19.95_140114
  17. Be careful, you will be making a claim, even if it's not on your policy, may come back to haunt you. It happened to me years ago when an OAP drove into my stationary car. I had a huge subsequent battle with my insurance company despite my no fault claim from the other party.
  18. I think the last two comments are spot on. The last bad snow here failed to stop my every day car, a Saab diesel auto convertible with a good set of Conti tyres. Our Superb is AWD because it was the only L&K available within 200 miles to our budget/spec. Ideally it would have been a 170 DSG 2wd. I have a suspicion if we didn't have AWD our consumption might be better. On consumption some people on this seem to get hugely better fuel consumption than me ( see below) but if you look on the Fuelly website the consumption of my car is broadly that of Superbs using Fuelly. I have driven a number of Passats, both DSG and manual hire cars, they helped me confirm how god the DSG box is. I think you'll find the Superb is a more capacious car and mine certainly has more toys - good luck. On the basis of legroom, SWMBO is off to Devon with three friends her offer to drive was rejected on the basis that the BMW X3 one of the drives is roomier, I assume they were comparing it with Helen's Focus Convertble not the Superb she was going to take. As she said - it'll save us wear tear and fuel but be less comfortable.
  19. I notice most Jeeps have the word limited on the tailgate. I thought it was a comment on the car's capabilities ;-)
  20. As a long time dog owner, I've only spent about five years of my life without one until the last one died three years ago. As frequent travellers SWMBO and I agreed no more dogs until we end up to old/broke/p'd off to travel. I've owned mongrels, spaniels, an old English sheepdog and an English Setter normally biggish dogs (the spanial was a very big springer but the smallest dog so far).We still get to borrow our grand dog from time to time. Most mornings my eyes stray to the dogs for sale in our local rag, labradors, setters, old English, whatever but I've noticed things like cavachons (cavalier king charles/bichon friese cross) snoogle (schnauzer/poodle cross) - you can make up any others you want. I know about and would love a labradoodle which were bred as guide dogs for people allergic to dog hair or a cockapoo, which I thought had a similar reason for existing but apparently not. Anyway, let's get back to my rant, for years I've been offered a variety of mutts where someone's pedigree/mongrel bitch has been got at by an uninvited suitor. In other words it's a mongrel looking for a good home. I think this trend of crossing dogs and giving them a made up name so that the breeder can charge £450 is an absolute joke. Anyone for a chihuaerman :-) PS my mate had a chihuaha and a st bernard and the vet reckoned to get one done as in his words "where there's a will there's a way.
  21. looks a bit fresh cowpat to me
  22. Thanks for that, think I'll live with it, usually if I need internet access it's to look for a good pub/ restaurant & wife's phone can be used to do it when mine is connected.
  23. Cut your cloth according to your means comes to mind. I was brought up in what today would be considered to be abject poverty but all our neighbours were the same and there was no point in envying the local rich kids. Both my parents worked in poorly paid jobs and my sister and I were latch key kids. When my son was born my first wife was desperate to go back to work but child are costs decimated her salary. We agreed she needed her carer so we lived in a small house, ran dodgy cars and holidayed in the UK. Wife number two chose to stay home and look after her three kids - she now feels it in her reduced pension. Neither of us had help from our parents who were working themselves. As grand parents we agreed to help out in emergencies and have the the grand kids for fun when we feel like it (annual holiday with them odd weekends etc.). Now retired we run two nice cars have a comfortable home, travel at whim ( hence are no longer dog owners) and we refuse to do regular school runs ( but do them when needed) to allow us the life we want. We brought our kids up and made our choices, child care has never been cheap. We emphasised to them that kids are expensive, they need to make rational decisions and build up local support networks of friends other parents. We will be there but refuse to be cheap child care. I am incredibly proud of my eldest step son who told his mother that he thought our agreement was right and sensible as he had seen his friend's mum die weeks after retiring - live for the moment was his philosophy, enjoy the grand kids but don't give up your life for my kids !
  24. I never disable data roaming except outside the UK, my wifi is permanently on but when the Samsung connects to the rSAP I am always denied data access. Switching off the ignition and opening the door disconnects the phone and allows me data access. Can you suggest any setting I may be able to change?
