Thanks. So a “swing” radio incorporates DAB? Yes I spotted a couple myself on Autotrader. I’m guessing there was a last round of them not so long ago. This lot are all 2017’s too. Mileage varies a lot but many are 40-60,000. it appears the likes of the above 40,000 miler may only be circa £6000 (or a bit less) but used cars remain to fetch high prices so I’m not certain. Current prices have really put me off something newer. I quite fancied an Octavia but they seem pricey in relation to age.

Thanks but I don't have any full VIN's. I've just had another look at the listings. I'm in EdInburgh and I thought most were at Bedford and Birmingham however I see just now there are a dozen at Leeds BCA. Unlike Bedford and B'ham all the cars at Leeds are listed as having DAB so I imagine I'd be safe with one of those.

Hey folks, There are quite a large number (100 of them!) 2017 Fabia 1.4 TDI 75 S estate car models coming up for sale at British Car Auctions this week. I need to replace my aging Mk1 Fabia 1.9 TDi estate and am thinking of trying to get one. It looks like they probably all have DAB, would this be right? Most are listed with it and all are the 75 S model. They have a small infotainment screen. Did all 2017's have DAB? It's something I really want so I don't want to risk buying one that doesn't! Unfortunately the vehicles need a new first UK registration but I think I can handle this ok. They'll be a little bit gutless compared to my PD100 1.9 diesel but guess economy will be excellent. Thanks for replies. My car did (to my slight surprise) seem ok on reconnecting the battery. There was no sign of the central locking cycling. Pulled the two fuses (alarm siren and main central locking). I'd read about the above key lock but couldn't help wonder that if there was/is an electrical problem, then the central locking might still act up of it's own accord? A pesky fault and not one you feel like you want to risk any further false alarms by doing nothing to see how it goes.

I see there are central locking fuses (two- one for boot lid no31 and another one 49) and a alarm siren fuse 60!

I and half my neighbourhood got woken at 330am this morning with my 06 TDI estate alarm sounding! I tried to put it off with the blipper then put the key in to turn ignition on but it was obvious the central locking wasn’t right, it was cycling constantly in some way. So seems likely the locking issue triggered the alarm. I disconnected my battery during the night. My thoughts were a module gone bad but on reading just now am I right it’s more likely an issue has suddenly developed with (probably..) the drivers door locking actuator or maybe wiring into a door? It seems strange this happened so suddenly hours after locking the car but faults do occur.. Is there anything I can do to disable the central locking system in the hope of no flashing indicators with it? About a year ago I disconnected the passenger door actuator because it’s locking/unlocking was intermittent. I can still lock and unlock this door because I extended the pop up pin so you can grip it). So if there was a way to disable the locking and alarm activation this would be a help to let me use the car. The old girl is really getting due for replacement so unless an easy fix I don’t see it likely I’ll want to change door actuators or chase a wiring issue. I can update later when I see what happens when I reconnect the battery this morning but seems fairly likely the locking will still be going awol. Any input appreciated re a work around (so as I have a car to use!) thanks

Power going to it I see though? While it's running on, from under the bonnet you hear it buzzing and from inside the car you hear more of a humming noise. I'm wondering why it's running on after key off which it seems to do all the time just now. Can't say I have any apparent issue though because it stops after about ten seconds.

2006 TDI Elegance estate. Hey again helpful folks here, I’ve heard this in the past occasionally but recently (last week or so) seems to always make the noise when I switch the car off. From the cabin it’s like hearing an electrical pump running in the engine bay, it stops after maybe 10 seconds after engine turned off/key out. I used to think it occasionally did this after using the AC but lately know it’s nothing to do with that. I think it’s this unit (pic) making the noise. So far I’ve no apparent issue, just the awareness of the noise that hasn’t normally been there. Anyone shed any light on what’s happening and if there’s anything to concern over? Thanks

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone can shed more light on how the wiring actually unplugs. I see each connector is fairly buried inside with hardly any access with the door still on the vehicle. Is the white plastic surround a retainer for the plugs or does each plug have to individually unclip (maybe you get more access with check strap undone..?) I’m considering a used door to replace my dented one because there’s one in my colour at a breakers yard but would like to fully understand the procedure before diving in. I also have an unfitted new electric lock because my central door locking stopped working so might’ve fitted this to the new door (or perhaps firstly take a chance it’ll work on the new door I got). many thanks

Good information, thanks. I’d agree that 1.4tsi would probably be ideal for me. Yes, I nearly mentioned DPF’s and concern foreseeing issues. The PD is a great little engine ok it’s just a pity the rest of the car is getting a bit tired. I could probably keep it a while longer but think I should be looking to replace it this year. Re DAB I was wondering if perhaps all after a certain year maybe have DAB. Quite a lot of cars from about 2014 do, but obviously not all so if it’s something you’d like it can be tricky to be sure without VIN checks etc.

Thanks. DAB is a bit of a deal breaker for me as I mainly listen to two stations that are not on FM. Aftermarket HU in my Fabia 1. Certainly the price of Diesel is going to make economical petrol’s more appealing but I do like diesel torque.

Hi folks, Couid you keep me right on what cars/age should have DAB radio? I’m thinking of an Octavia estate circa 2015-2017/18 to replace my old Fabia TDI. Should most cars be ULEZ compliant? I’m not at all set on a diesel as am not a high mileage driver but I’m open minded on engines unless there’s any reason to avoid any. Many thanks for any input. In part I ask this because there seems to be quite a lot of engine variants.

Job went smoothly taking alternator off the car (the pulley slid off alternator shaft when I released tension on the belt!) and managing to get a new pulley locally for £24. A garage friend quickly took off and replaced the pulley for me with the appropriate tool. For information purposes on the thread, the above part number 535001210 is a good one to go by. I would say this pulley seems super common to many 2004-2010 VAG vehicles, and some newer vehicles too. My pulley OE number was F-227628.XX.

Many thanks. That was kind to post the above. As I say I’ll try mid morning to check things out, and perhaps firstly see if I can easily see pulley part number. I got the terribly clattery noise (not too long a journey home yesterday with it) and I’d say 99% sure from alternator. Is this probably just from the pulley disintegrating and causing imbalance/clatter?

Thanks for reply. Hoping mid morning I can take a better look and make inroads to removing the alternator. Reason for post was in the hope of seeing if I could find stock locally earlier this morning. I understand there should be a part number on the pulley, under the cover but most fitment guides seemed to indicate that is probably the right pulley. if anyone was able to confirm I might’ve seen if a friend could pick one up for me.

Thanks but it’s not acting like a low battery or bad connection. It seems like a temperamental electrical issue. I’ve got it back together now with the passenger door lock disconnected and an ability to manually lock/unlock via the door pin. I can now grip it pull it back up when it’s in the (locked) down position. This will do for now.

I’ve been into it today. Signal wise, I am wondering if definitely the lock unit and not the body control module. My electric windows (like my last fabia) behave oddly. It now seems the above regarding operation from the interior locking rocker switch isn’t working properly either. It’ll either work or the lock is silent. This is why I’m not sure which electrical centre might be the issue? Ive disconnected the lock inside the door and it appears the door will lock/unlock manually with the (visible on top of door panel) door pin. The pin was able to be extended up quite high on the inner pin (and have epoxy’d it in that position) so I should be able to lock this door from inside should I so wish. At present my drivers door doesn’t operate well from the fob so is greatly open, but alarm wails if someone were to open it. So may just settle for this ghetto/hooptie fix. Car is just a little workhorse.
