Hi Helpful peeps, thoughts please. 2006 Elegance TDI Estate. Brief history. Passenger door lock played up for short period (not unlocking well via fob) then stopped working perhaps 2yrs ago. I opened the door panel to find the riveted inner panel. Ended up managing to spray lubricant around lock (without removing inner panel) which cured issues completely. More recently drivers lock gave me issues which I have suspected may also be seizing rather than electrical. Haven't worried about fixing it as I lock the door manually if I was worried about items in the car. Now the passenger's is playing up again. Oddly, it seems to open ok in this scenario: press fob twice to unlock all doors (car set like this), get in and put ignition on then press lock and unlock via rocker switch on drivers door handle. Passenger door pops open ok. I was just looking for a bit of feedback on how best to proceed. TBH if I can permanently have the passengers door unlocked this wouldn't worry me too much but it would of course be better to fix it properly. I actually have a new passenger lock (ebay cheap one) that I had intended to fit 2 years ago. Just not sure just now if the passenger issue is electrical from something other than the internal door part. Many thanks

Not sure if another cost saving measure but I miss the cable operated tailgate release that my 2001 estate had (beside fuel door release)

Ah right. Wow, that indeed also explains the knob in the glove box I forgot about. Thanks People are always urging me to get “something better” or “something newer”. More ammunition to say I’ve got two cool boxes 😆

Ah right. Mine certainly seemed to be opening and closing much more randomly!!

Thanks for link to that. Recirculating seemed to present as an issue a long time ago. Something like the button lighting up of its own accord and not pressing off, and more recently being unable to select it BUT I’m pretty sure I could hear the flap opening and closing randomly at times! My two mk1 Fabia’s seem to be good at doing impressions of Alfa/Lancia/Fiat electrics!

My 2006 TDi with AC has developed fan speed issues as well as not coming on but it’s a mixture of both. It hasn’t not come on at all, just odd behaviour. Is there a blower motor resistor I need to change? Just like my old Mpi this car has weird window operation/central locking stuff going on but it’s never a big problem. It’s just like the control box gets slightly confused! My recirculating air function hasn’t been quite right for some time (maybe a year..) but again, not been a biggie to worry about. Thought I’d best mention those other electrical anomalies but I suspect the blower might just be a resistor fault as I think this explains my symptoms. input appreciated on it incl accessing/finding resistor Many Thanks

Well my whole radiator area is pretty much completely blocked off. I was wary of overheating but absolutely no sign of it. Temp gauge needle been rock solid at middle.

A while has passed with my radiator effectively blocked off so I wanted to chime back in to say I think there is actually a slight difference in warm up time. I reckon it’ll be down to cold air not hitting the block so readily while driving. This appears somewhat confirmed by very little warm up at tickover. But when engine revving (when moving) it seems slightly faster at warming up.

Well, to report back I was cleaning the trusty steed yesterday so took the opportunity to try blocking off the radiator. The best thing I came up with to use was a plastic storage box lid. Appearing a bit big for the job it was about exactly the size of the radiator/AC condenser. Still, I thought it’d be a good test. Outside temp was 1.5-2c so cold without being seriously sub zero. My conclusion was that it was a total waste of time. No discernible difference in heat in the car/heating up time.

Thanks. Just wondered in relation to vindaloo's post on warming up time. Mine does get there ok it's just not fast at all. Any shortish journeys provide very little by way of heat from the heater. I've got heated seats which helps a bit.

That’s interesting re the heater. My car is a bit of an old workhorse so not something I’d do, but it’s a good idea especially for very cold places. The rubber mat suggestion is more my style!

Ah of course you’re right no water circulation until ‘stat open! Hmm. Suppose might still be an interesting exercise. Could always fill the engine bay with expanding foam, that’d insulate the block nicely for quicker warm up (joking)

Must admit, don’t know anything about anything heating the coolant. Diesels I’ve had (basically just an S Type Jaguar and BMW 730d were both pretty slow to heat up compared to their petrol counterparts. This being most noticeable and most annoying when it’s cold outside.

Good point maybe some plastic sheet. Think I’ve got a small rubble bag I could try. Could slip cardboard inside it.

2006 1.9 TDI. Anyone slotted some cardboard down to cover some of the radiator? I hate diesels taking so much longer than a petrol car to heat up during cold weather. Im guessing seeing vehicles in the past during winter with covers over half the grill was to help warm up.
