  1. Chaps, I'd love to come, but I still don't feel fit to drive on the wrong side of the road  ...
  2. Well, I would advise against it. In CZ, a full manual wash incl. wheels costs about £10-15, so if the situation is any similar in the UK, I don't think automatic makes much sense.
  3. Welcome, fellow chap. I too have had my Mk1 for a short time, so we might be in this together . Good luck with the mending!
  4. Got textile mats from the factory. 50k miles, 10 years, looking good.
  5. Not entirely sure about that, but it's true that I went with an insurance as the primary solution.
  6. An Octy does take 3 child seats in the back, but they must be narrow enough. You'll need to spend a good amount of time looking for the right ones, but it's possible. Proven constructively by a colleague of mine (kids aged 5, 7 and 11).
  7. Not a RHD owner, but I have a suggestion - in CZ, many people go with Defend Lock, and aftermarket locking mechanism, which seems to be available in the UK as well. Might be worth checking out: http://www.defend.eu/Defend-Lock/
  8. I can't say you're not right, but I think that a bit of "tweaking" of reality is inevitable in marketing. I mean - can you imagine an iPhone ad with all the smudges that occupy the screen all the time?
  9. I know a guy who runs his 20yo Merc on vegetable oil. Smells like KFC, but runs.
  10. The hardware does not matter. The graphics will be comparably good on both the consoles. Both do DVD/Bluray, so you shouldn't care about that either. What could matter is second hand games, continuous internet connection and/or what DRM will be put into practice. XBox needs Kinect always on, and Microsoft has filed for a patent that describes how the console determines how many people there are in the room when watching a movie and adjust licensing terms to match that. That's enough for me not to touch the console with a ten foot pole. Sony hasn't revealed much in terms of this, so I'd wait. So far, nothing tears me apart from my gaming PC.
  11. It's a bit beside the point, but did you know that if you wanted to settle your disputes and see the Octy in all available colours, e. g. in a showroom, there is none? There literally is no place like that. Now we're restricted to our (uncalibrated) monitors to consider whether Fun Orange would cut it or not, because I doubt anyone is insane enough to actually buy it .
  12. IDK, I can't hear anything I haven't heard with TDi Superbs.
  13. Congrats on the family expansion . Ad car: Galaxy is great, but you may stay within the Konzern with the Sharan.
  14. That's why you have to try really hard to buy from the 1%.
  15. Would not buy. The car being CatD is OK, but since the guy doesn't say anything about it, papers might not be 100% okay. If you don't have the proof of the writeoff, it might be a huge pain to insure, let alone completely uninsurable.
  16. I have a MkI estate in anthracite grey and for that car, it's pretty mundane. However, I like the contradiction it makes when put on the vRS - it blends in with the crowd, yet it's somehow menacing. Sort of a car ninja .
  17. Hi there. I have run into this funny problem - the button on my handbrake comes off pretty easily, albeit I always push it back on, and it clicks into place. The handle doesn't stay in place either, i. e. i can pull it forwards and only the gaiter stops it from sliding off completely. I don't want to use glue; is there a way to fix this other than replacing one/both of the parts, please? Thanks, Sheldon
  18. Found out my lighter socket fuse is dead. Guess which one is not in the spare box?
  19. Not really, the original vRS bumper is double the price. However, it has double the looks.
  20. Hi there. I am considering some very basic security measures for my 2003 Octy (it's theft insured already), and I have come across the Bullock pedal lock. Does any of you guys have any experience with it? It got some fancy award from Auto Express for lasting 17 minutes, so I would like to have some actual owner's feedback. Thanks. See the UK link.
  21. 2 moley and TeflonTom: Please, stop acting like a*ses, thanks. Hey dude. I also swear pretty badly when someone does something stupid, but if you're scaring yourself, I would suggest talking to a psychologist. (S)he may tell you it's nothing, or may suggest some sort of a solution. A (female) friend of mine is a very cool person, but about a year ago she started bursting into tears over the tiniest things. The doctor told her there was some sort of chemical imbalance in her brain, prescribed her some medication and now she's OK (she's already off those pills, doing good).
  22. Speaking of the bonnet wraps - does any of you guys have experience with the apply-yourself ones? A full bonnet wrap done by a company is about £400, which is about triple the price of an actual re-paint, and I'm seriously not paying that. On the other hand, I have my doubts about the wraps sold by the yard. Any pointers, please?
  23. I'm wondering what the difference is between the UK and Slovakia, where a colleague of mine insured his vRS for €79.
  24. It certainly shouldn't have been an offense, I love the guy. And no, you don't have to show me how normal I am. I have a typewriter, and I use it. Because I want.
  25. Exactly. Torsion beam is just the standard spec "feature", higher specs get independent rear suspension like the Golf.
