  1. Franchise workshop will charge £140 initial diagnoses / code read. Is there an alternative way to diagnose if the fault is with a strut or latch sensor? I have found that the latch sometimes operates when the tailgate has not fully shut? I also find the fault occurs if the car has been sat for several hours but if been driven it appears to work fine. Does this point it toward either the strut or latch?
  2. Would expect DPF on a Superb 2.0 diesel to last at least 150k miles. Mine is just over half full at near 120k miles. Others on here report getting near 200k before the DPF nears capacity. Older generation DPFs predating the Superb mk3 were more problematic.
  3. Hi, The powered tailgate has an intermittent fault. It is sometimes stopping part way through the movement either opening or closing, usually in the same position each time it does it. I’ve reset the open position setting by holding down the tailgate button and waiting for the beep, but it still has the intermittent issue. Any pointers? Thanks!
  4. Is this still on the factory DPF, injectors, egr valve etc?
  5. Mine makes the same noises when it's been dry for a while, always took it as a "they all do that sir" based on comments on here and never really looked into it. In 60k miles it's not worsened either.
  6. If the battery is on its way out then the winter is when it’ll show the most, batteries don’t like cold and it’s also when the car will have the greatest power load for glow plugs, cranking a colder engine with thicker (cold start) oil, heated seats, electric heater for initial warm air in cabin etc.
  7. Clicking could be clock spring? Rubbing noise sounds like back of the steering wheel rubbing on the column plastic covers?
  8. Thanks. If it slows the rate of corrosion for a few years that’s fine as with my mileage it’ll be well over 150k in a couple more years.
  9. I’ve noticed my car is slowly developing a rusty stain on the drive, it’s roughly below where the gear lever or centre of the console is in relation to the car so basically middle of bulkhead area. Can’t find anything to suggest source other than can the ac drain or body drains cause this?
  10. For anyone reading I've opted for CarPaints4u touch up kit with primer, and will be using hyrdate-80 on the corrosion spots before applying the primer and paint. Only problem is now it's too wet to use with the amount of rainfall we're getting and when it's not raining it's too cold to use! Joys of British motoring...
  11. Thanks. Any suggested corrosion inhibitors?
  12. Hi, I have some stone chips on the leading edge above the windscreen, some which are down to the metal so corroding. Photograph attached. What stone chip product have people had success with? Thanks,
  13. I have had nozzles freeze with strong mix of washer solution. I understand this is because the alcohol (?) content evaporates at the nozzle whereas stays contained in the pipe, so pipe can be okay but the nozzle tip frozen. Heated jets would avoid this arising I presume? What’s involved to retrofit without heated windscreen?
  14. Bit concerning given the age of the car? Appreciate you're in Aberdeen. What is the rest of the car like underneath?
  15. Hi Does anyone know if the car (with proper coding etc) disables the cabin tailgate open button when the trailer light socket is connected? Or is there still the risk of someone accidentally activating it if say a bike rack were on the tow bar and the two meeting? Thanks
  16. As far as I know the MOT emissions test equipment is relatively basic, so I would have though its unlikely pick up the difference (significantly enough anyway) if an engine was running okay. @gicu I appreciate this isn't helping you with your question, what led you to have the DPF removed? Had it filled up and reached the end of its service life?
  17. Thanks for the replies. Slightly more expensive than envisaged.
  18. Hi, Looking at options to install a detachable tow bar to my Superb mk3 estate. The car did not come with the tow pack harness (to my knowledge) according to the build sheet. Where and how much is the going rate for the detachable tow bar with electrics install? Thanks
  19. Yes both shocks disconnected. Travel limited by the control arms themselves. Could previous adjustment of the occentric tracking bolt limit travel? As car had four wheel alignment a year ago or so…
  20. Hi Thanks for the replies. Rear of car in air, both wheels off. Yes had anti roll bar links, dampers and xenon level sensor disconnected and not a chance enough travel to remove spring without compressor or removing (stretch?) bolt for hub to control arm. Thanks,
  21. I think this task requires spring compressors on a normal car without sportline suspension. I have measured how much extra travel required even with anti roll bar disconnected and it’s approx 100mm further travel required, can’t see that being possible without disconnecting torque to setting (possibly with angle torque one use only) bolts connecting the hub to arm.
  22. Hi all, Warning to anyone else attempting. Having now got round to the job, I can confirm removing rear damper bolt and headlight level sensor does not give anywhere near sufficient droop to pull the spring out. I am going to have to experiment and see whether it’s the anti roll bar limiting or if I need to disconnect the rear hubs from swing arms. Thanks,
  23. Should your mirror not dip in reverse check that the mirror selection is set to the passenger side, if it’s set to neutral (ie ahead so not selecting either mirror) then the auto dip in reverse doesn’t function.
