  1. Hmm, not good news on the cam. A couple of the lobes had roughness on them, so looks like I'm being forced to get a standard camshaft brand new. :( This also jeopardises this weekend's plans too. :(
  2. If a Q8 pot of oil had "recommended for 505.01" on it, would you use it in a pd130? I'm having doubts, but perhaps not with any foundation?
  3. JBS Kevlar clutch - 400 lb/ft organic jobby. I will get pics up of the old clutch plate. If it WAS a sachs clutch all along, then that's mighty odd.
  4. Box is out. Old clutch is out too - boy it was in a bad way. Rivets very loose, clutch plate pretty bad. You can tell it's been slipping.... Oddest thing is I noticed a SACHS stamp on the housing.... I assume just the housing might be Sach,
  5. Enjoying myself today. (This is Jason by the way... ) Started working on the mongrel at 11, and so far including lunch, the subframe has been dropped complete and the driveshafts are out - left in the hubs as they're not in the way. Box is ready to drop, and I reckon new one will be in by the end of the day. Photos are being taken along, which will follow in a couple of days.
  6. Nice one! Good to see one of barbie girl in there too!
  7. You're going to need more power to make 4WD worth it. Bring on the V8 fabia!
  8. You'll need them to see the felicia we've just finished "tarting up" The felicia needed something to make it stand out a bit - and it got it. Roll on Tuesday night. :woohoo: (Jason here by the way )
  9. Yep - I do give mine at least a couple of bits of full boost where possible on a journey (once warm) and it very rarely goes a day without being driven. Does my commute, and normally does something most weekends. That's probably keeping my turbo and other bits in good condition.
  10. Yep - all out now. Only one needed the drill, then a flat headed screwdriver tapped in in reverse to ease it out. Well happy now. Can spend the rest of the day sunbathing - Actually, I'm going to help out around the garage for the rest of the day - But probably avoiding jobs with torque wrenches. Silver cam cover is on, along with chromed fuel rail. Looking sweet as anything. Now it's making the alternator and head look a bit ugly. But that will take HOURS to get them looking any good....
  11. Jason here, on the garage's account. Spent around 10 minutes so far on it. Four bolts came out with nothing more than some encouragement with the end of a flat screwdriver. One is proving a little tougher and is getting the drill treatment. Good progress being made.
  12. Jason, jason, jason. Just as well we got some easy outs from Mr snap-on the other day. Sorry but I have to laugh a bit Worse things could happen!
  13. Yeah thats the one, lurid purple/blue mess. I registered it today and the logbook says blue. First prize jason.
  14. It's pretty well ready just got to get the MOT, pump up the tyres, chuck in some oil and we're off!
  15. The car's purple init jason? Yellow is the best colour I think but we'll get a few others in there to make it even more interesting. Not worried about it coming off either, I'll just blow it over with matt black if I want to sell it.
  16. No, not bad, but if you don't claim this year the insurance company will have made their money back, so not bad for them either. Over a long period you're almost certain to be worse off money wise with the insurance than without. The insurance company would go bust pretty quick otherwise. Sorry but I really do think it's a scam.
  17. Great thread. Couple of questions. 1. Why are people pulled over on the hard shoulder of the motorway? We're always told it's for emergencys only and pulling someone for speeding isn't. Why isn't the car tailed to the next exit and taken in there? It just seems dangerious to make people stop on the hard shoulder for no good reason. 2. Is any amount of wheelspin considered dangerous driving? For example if i accelerated hard on a straight, clear piece of road in a FWD car and had wheelspin in second gear (in control and not in any way dangerous)? Cheers!
  18. I agree with jason, I hate these sorts of things. If they thought they were going to have to pay out then they wouldn't sell you the policy. Put the money in a pot and save it in case anything does go wrong, and if it doesn't spend it on a weekend break to amsterdam, that's living!
  19. Nice and easy. The mongrel's nearside ball joint was pretty sha99ed, so a new one was sought, and fitted in about 5 minutes. Handling should be sorted a bit more now. Was told the joint was amongst the easiest ever to replace, given the number of cars he'd replaced them on before. (Jason on the mechanics account )
