  1. I've tried Stevia (being a type 2 diabetic). It is certainly sweet enough & virtually calorie free, BUT it does appear to have a peculiar after-taste that persists during the day. I have been using Sucralose (aka Splenda), which is a modified form of sucrose, which I find to be a perfect substitute for sugar. Have been using it for over 2 years now & I find it the best of the zero calorie sweeteners, with no side effects, no after taste & no recorded pathology that I am aware of . My blood sugar is well under control. As an added bonus Aldi have recently started to sell it at the bargain price of 87p compared to Splenda's price of £3 plus. Aldi sells it under the name of The Pantry sweetener. You can use it in cooking as well (most sweeteners, you cant because they decompose under heat).
  2. Car went in for oil consumption test today, & then shortly after I got a telephone call from the dealer to say the test had to be aborted because of "modifications to the car". The modifications in question are replacement stainless steel exhaust system with resonator box removed & an ITG Maxogen air induction kit. I was told (in no uncertain terms) by Simpsons of Preston that unless I could present the car in a standard unmodified state they would not be able to continue with the test. Obviously I can bolt the standard air filter back on, but the exhaust system poses a problem - I no longer have the standard exhaust. I can't imagine that either of the mods could possibly have any bearing on oil consumption, but Simpson's were resolute with their decision. So what can I do chaps? Is their decision based on SUK policy or are they just being picky? Any suggestions?
  3. I believe they are "screen grabs" from the BBC Parliament programme; if that is so how could they be fake?
  4. If anybody still doubts the integrity of the majority of our MP's, then you may wish to consider the following composite photograph:- Speaks for itself doesn't it? Shows where their intentions & priorities really lie, doesn't?
  5. Just got back from 3 months in Southern Spain, covered 4200 miles on Repsol or Cepsa 98 RON. Car behaved perfectly, & without the fear of speed cameras every couple of miles, I certainly gave it a good thrashing. Used a bit of oil, best part of 3 litres & it's in for an oil consumption test on Monday, although I guess they'll say it's within spec. Warranty expires early March so I want everything checked out before then, & then maybe explore extended warranty? Average MPG was 42.6.
  6. I remember that Ireland had a referendum to decide whether to leave the EU, & the populace voted to leave. So then the Irish Government launched another referendum (after imposing political pressure on the voters to stay in), whereupon the populace voted to stay in. Does anybody really believe that Cameron would let us leave the EU? Too many vested interests, too many people on the gravy train. Just like they wouldn't let Greece leave, in spite of all the threats. No my friends, we're in it for the duration.
  7. Always have used Tesco Momentum since Day One (or RON equivalent if Momentum not available). Don't know if its any better than standard petrol or not, but as the recommendation for the vRS TSI engine is for 97RON minimum, it seemed wise to follow the advice. The general consensus from this forum seems to indicate (for the Fabia vRS) that the extra cost of the fuel is more than compensated by extra mpg.
  8. But I don't think Tesco, in that regard are any worse than Google, Amazon, Starbucks etc etc. Are we going to boycott them all? In an ideal world everyone would play fair & pay their taxes. But it's a dog eat dog world & it seems that these days where everything is run by accountants, their first duty is to the shareholders, and that is true of every business, whether it be retailers, sport, banking, insurance, anything you can think of really. It's a sad world but the customer definitely comes second nowadays. Jack Cohen would surely turn in his grave if he could see how his rags to riches company had turned out.
  9. All big businesses are out to screw the Government & the Customer. It's a fact of life. Live with it. It's all about perceived value & customer service, as long as I can continue to receive both, I will continue shopping at Tesco, but as I have no loyalty to any particular retailer, (except Tesco for Momentum), I go where the value & quality is, & if Tesco manage to screw the government along the way, good luck. I wish I could.
  10. Where would us vRS owners be without Tesco Momentum?
  11. 1) Tubular Bells - sheer genius. All versions - even the orchestral one 2) Anything by Dylan everything he ever recorded even the bootlegs 3) Anything by Cohen 4) Jacques Loussier I have my entire music collection from the mid 50's to the early 80's (nothing worth listening to since then IMHO) on a 1Tb hard drive set to random play on my Chinese Andoid head unit - brilliant piece of kit.
  12. Similar experience. We rescued a Spanish kitten, who our Spanish friend informed us was female & she was christened Lola. When we took her to the vets in Spain, she asked the kittens name & we said Lola , the vet said you mean Lollo (the male equivalent of Lola, - yes she was a he. We never did get our head round Lollo somehow & consequenty Lollo is now Rambo - a healthy 6kg tom.
  13. It's working well here (rural Spain). The Policia Local have a drink driving campaign. The mandatory €50 you include with you documents has been upped to €100. If your documents are returned without the €100 you can relax & go on your way. However if your documents are returned & the €100 is still there, then you've got a problem...
  14. Always thought Braille batteries were for blind drivers. But more seriously do they have the same capacity (ampere hours) & what sort of price?
  15. + Looks very neat, but moving the battery to the boot is beyond me, I'm afraid. I would imagine you would need cable in the order of 20mm diameter. How would you route that from the engine bay all the way back to the boot? Other posters have had difficulty getting a thin wire through the bulkhead/firewall just to power a dashcam. Ways to do it would be welcome
  16. I would be interested in an airscoop mod. Seems to me that in the case of the ITG Maxogen air induction system, the routing of the air intake pipe, being squeezed in between the battery & the wheel arch is at the least very Heath Robinson & surely not efficient. I had looked at rearward facing bonnet scoops, incorporating a water drain, which would surely be a better source of cold air for the Maxogen? I did find one on the web but now I can't. Look again when I get back to the UK.
  17. Whether or not Janner had Alzheimer's disease is immaterial, & whether or not he used that as an excuse to ensure that he was never brought to trial is also immaterial. What needs to be explained is why when the allegations were made back in 1991 they were not pursued with the same diligence & aggression as more recent offenders. I am referring of course to the likes of Rolf Harris, Max Clifford, DLT, Fred Talbot and several others. Even Cliff Richard's apartment was stormed by the police using SAS tactics, based on (apparently) flimsy evidence. I agree that British law is the only recourse we have but it should be applied equally & equitably across the spectrum of society. Clearly this wasn't the case for Janner. He, (or someone acting on his behalf), used their position & influence to ensure that investigations were never carried out with any determination. Maybe that's is why it's called Common Law, because it only applies to us commoners?
  18. You can always find an expert to argue a point. The more so if he is paid handsomely for it. You'll be telling me you believe in climate change (Global warming) next ......
  19. I have been running Denso plugs for 6 months now set at 0.6mm gap. Completely cured my misfire. I can redline now & it doesn't miss a beat. I am currently running an ITG Maxogen forced air intake, a TMC tuning box & a 70mm SS cat back exhaust system with central resonator removed.
  20. Llanigraham said & I quote:- "And you are, of course, an expert in the British judicial system? Thought not!!" No. Not at all - just a casual observer. But then again you do not need to be an expert to see what is staring you in the face. Why would 17 unconnected people make allegations about a celebrated MP as early as 1991? He became a peer of our realm in 1997, & in spite of the wealth of evidence collected, police enquiries were 'stood down' because of 'intervention from above'. You do not need to be a LL.b to see what that means. Plain as the nose on your face. The establishment has always looked after its own - always will.
  21. The claims against Janner originate in the 90's when he was compos mentis. It was only interference/procrastination/ wilful destruction of evidence by the authorities (for that read Establishment), that delayed any serious investigation into the allegations. The do gooders on here would argue that Fred West was innocent - he was never found guilty in a court of law!!! And he had a sub-normal IQ & a history of head injuries. Just where do you draw the line whether a person is fit to plead?
  22. Add to that list - Peter Sutcliffe aka The Yorkshire Ripper, managed to pull the wool over the so called experts for an easy life in Broadmoor, now judged sane enough to be considered for parole.; and possibly Ian Brady aka the Moors Murderer, enjoys the sanctity of a private room & enhanced facilities at Ashworth Hospital. It could be argued that every 'Kiddy Fiddler' is mentally ill & therefore should enjoy the enhanced facilities of a Hospital rather than the regime of a prison cell - I DON'T THINK!!!
  23. He (Janner) was eloquent enough to sit in the House of Lords until quite recently - just long enough to 'qualify' for his attendance allowance. I know as a matter of fact (personal experience) that so called "medical experts" can be called upon to testify concerning medical conditions - especially if the fee is high enough! I have no personal axe to grind re Janner et al. As Seboni has already says he is either now at peace with his Lord or burning in the fiery furnaces of hell. I know where I rather he be. No, my heart goes out to those poor souls who have had their innocence stolen and the effect it has had (& still continues to have ) on their mental stability. Who speaks for them?
