  1. Maybe the 3rd generation cameras are of better build quality. Certainly there are a lot of 1st & 2nd release cameras still being sold. I suspect mine is at the best 2nd generation. My problems have been:- 1st camera - No or very intermittent GPS 2nd camera - Slightly better GPS but still slow to lock -on & quick to drop out. This one also had distorted & crackly sound. 3rd camera. - No GPS. Out of focus on everything more than 20 feet away. Crackly sound & Internal battery not always charging. I came to the conclusion that all the faults (except the focus problem) were due to the new (improved?) base not making proper contact with the camera contacts. initially I tried the recommended fix of inserting a thin paper shim in between the camera base mount parts, so that it was a tighter fit. It made the situation worse. Finally I decided to wire the base & camera together using thin enamel coated copper wire. RESULT:- Constant GPS, quick to latch on & no distorted sound & battery charges OK. DISADVANTAGE - I can no longer remove camera from mount, but I can live with that. Out of focus was cured by diassembling the camera & refocussing the lens & then 'locking' it in position with nail varnish - I found shocking pink was best.
  2. As far as I am aware the Mini 0806 is currently not available. At least not from any reputable supplier. A damn shame because it is capable of amazing quality video. It has been let down by poor assembly & inadequate QC. I sourced mine from an Amazon supplier who shipped direct from China, & consequently only covered by Amazon's 30 day replacement/cancellation policy. I'm on my 3rd replacement camera with a down time of 5-8 weeks in between replacements, & each replacement has been faulty! I cant be 4rsed any more & have 'sorted' the problem myself, touch wood! Has now been 6 weeks & still going strong.
  3. Seems it's some people's sole aim on this forum to criticise other peoples use of written or spoken English, or for petty spelling mistakes which have no bearing on the context of the post. Our language is an evolving living thing that has been corrupted for hundreds if not thousands of years. (just look at the new additions in the OED) I for one dont give a Flying Four X about grammar or spelling. As long as the message gets across who cares? Indeed the odd Spoonerism or Malapropism often adds a little bit of comedy to what otherwise would be a boring post. But I'm with you B060BYS. Can't stand it when you go into the barbers and he says something along the lines "Did alright yesterday, didn't they?". As if you are supposed to, know automatically which football team they are talking about. Me, I only go to barbers that talk about real ale or sex.
  4. If you are selling your house the last thing you want to do is antagonise the neighbours - they could sabotage a sale so easily. All they need to do is be noisy or act aggressively when you've got a viewing. Nobody wants to live next door to nuisance neighbours. The way forward has got be conciliation. Most people are reasonable when the circumstances are explained to them. Maybe he (they) don't realise the nuisance they are causing. I knew somebody who had an horrible neighbour once , noisy, all night parties, car races up & down the street - but eventually I moved out.
  5. No not at all. It's a suction mount with a ball & socket joint which locks very positively. Can post some footage if you want?
  6. For a reasonable budget 1080p dashcam with GPS, I reckon the Mio Mivue takes some beating. Fairly low profile & very reliable. (so far). Nextbase 402g is OK but its an ugly brute that won't fit behind the drivers mirror. Also on mine GPS is bit temperamental & then the digital speed read out/compass rose reverts to showing the road ahead.
  7. Virtually impossible to get 360 degree coverage (I have been accused of 'Going over the top' by having a 3rd camera to monitor events inside the cabin & through the driver's side windows). Where do you draw the line? The Mio Mivue is a nice cheap camera with full HD Video & it seems very reliable.
  8. It seems that there are certain sections of the public who are protected - not just the Establishment but other less desirable 'humans' - I use that word reluctantly. The reasons given are usually the Racial Prejudice act or Human Rights Act, & it seems not to matter a jot that one of these individuals could end up living right next door to a decent person - and he/she has no human rights at all. All to much one sided IMHO - but what can we do? Possibly take the law into our hands, as above, but then run the risk of ending up in the dock yourself. What about a Rights for the Thoroughly Decent Person Act?
  9. Link working now. Good quality videos & good post production editing.
  10. Nope. Still doesn't work (Not from my computer, any way) http://evodt.co.uk/videos%C2%A0
  11. Link doesn't work (bottom one). Would like to see your videos.
  12. I believe the 0805 camera has a better reliability record than the 0806. I finally decided that it wasn't the camera playing up, just the base. My problems were:- no or intermittent GPS, or crackly sound. I've finally solved the problem (I think) by hard wiring the camera to the base - and so far after a couple of months the camera is fine. The video quality of the 0806 is superb - far better than my other 2 cameras (Nextbase 402g & Mio Mivue 5) & with 2 sd slots of up to 128Gb each, plenty of recording time.
  13. Here's my set up. 2 front cameras (1 looking inside , but out of drivers side window), & a satnav, all permanently wired. 1 rear camera (mini 0806). & rear camera. I decided I wanted my cameras to be on when I was parked up, as I had already been bumped once before, so I wired them via 2 toggle switches situated in the blanks next to the gear stick. That way I could switch them on as required. You will need: I piggyback fuse holder & 1 or 2 12v to 5v converters, from Ebay (cheap as chips) . I picked up an 12v always on feed from the fusebox and wired to a 5v regulator which I situated in the drivers side access panel. . Wiring runs down windscreen pillar. For the rear camera, I used a separate 5v converter which I situated underneath the rear seat cushion & ran the wiring along side the plastic trim that holds the carpet down. For grounding, I used any metal chassis, & secured the ground wire with a ring connector & self tapping screw. Cost in total, using 2 5v converters & the piggy back fuse holder, less than £10. Switches were from Halfrauds & about a fiver each. Total time for the job - round about 2 hours. Only problem has been the Mini 0806 camera - I'm on my 3rd!
  14. Apparently the current enquiry into Child Molestation (The IICSA chaired by Hon. Lowell Goddard) isn't expected to conclude until 2020 - and if the Chilcot report is any indicator that could well be dragged out until 2030 or beyond. Thus ensuring many of the suspects will have departed this world & will only be judged in the next. I expect the family of Lord Greville Janner (maybe even he himself) hopes this to be the case. In any case it will be a whitewash cover up. Don't the Establishment always wriggle out of it? Apparently 132 'top names' are on the list. I'm not going to name any of them but they are available on the www with a little bit of Googling.
  15. Best all round sound editor/ converter I have found is AUDACITY. It will edit/convert just about any format. It's free, advert free & you can download it free from AUDACITY here:- http://audacityteam.org/ I especially like the NORMALIZE feature which removes any DC offset & sets the peak level to a standard level (-1.0Db). This ensures all tracks play at the same volume level.
  16. Thanks for that. Its the same puller I've ordered. Just need to find a supplier for the plug spanner, now I know what I need.
  17. As my warranty is not far off expiring, I need to do some of the service work myself. I have located a supplier for a coil pack puller, but I'm not sure what sort of spark plug socket I need. What size? Is it special to VAG or will any make do? Help please.

    So . . .

What a completely useless, waste of space topic.
  19. I am flattered that you are comparing me with Victor Meldrew. After all it was Richard Wilson himself who commented "Victor is a normal man in a world full of idiots"
  20. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!! If you couldn't be bothered reading it, then why bother commenting? If this is an attack 'via the back door' to revive my opinion of the BBC, then you are wasting your time matey. (with apologies for quoting Victor)
  21. My hero. Now there was a guy who wasn't afraid to stand up & be counted. He could certainly get things actioned. What a brilliant combination of the writing of David Renwick & the portrayal of Victor by Richard Wilson. A bit off topic though, & I don't see how your comment vxh26 equates or pertains to my OP. But then again a lot of your posts are somewhat arcane & confusing - just my opinion.
  22. I think I'm in competition with you as the most hated contributor to this forum. Just a thought
  23. OK. I've bowed to temptation. My original topic was locked by the moderators (presumably because it was becoming too contemptuous), but I was asked to give an update regarding the outcome of my letter to the BBC. This I have done. My protest has been read & registered & the reply I have received from the BBC has satisfied implanted doubts that I may be committing an offence by watching catch-up TV & listening to digital radio via my TV - I am not. I'm not penny pinching or trying to get out of paying my licence fee by any 'back door dodge'. Indeed I often spend a lot more than the annual licence fee cost in one day down at the local bookies. The whole idea of a community forum (this one included I hope) is for the interchange of views & ideas & I have received many, some which concur with my views & others which clearly don't. I don't think I can add any further useful opinion - although I have many. But it wouldn't achieve anything - my mind is already made up & will not be swayed. I can only repeat again ad nauseum, that my views in the future may change. The BBC may be reformed. It may (in my perception) become value for money. I may re-instate my licence. Who knows? I would now ask the Moderators to close this topic (again) as I don't feel inclined to contribute further
  24. Yes, you're right seems this is a rehash of an article the Times motoring correspondent ran last year. The Times must be short of news?
  25. Best car I've ever had. In fact it's the ONLY new car I've ever had where I've not had to make a claim on warranty (over 2 years an owner now). Always ready to perform when necessary. Always puts a smile on my face. Usually draws a gasp from the challengers. I did consider getting rid at one point, but I've grown to love it in spite of it's petty foibles. It has a certain innocence & charm that can't be beaten - for the money (IMHO)
