  1. Well,I've bitten the bullet and fitted my new steel rims with Conti TS850 tyres from mytyres.co.uk to my Superb.Took 40 minutes for all 4 !!! I know the temperature is still above 7degs C but I'm having knee surgery in 2 weeks and wanted it done before then. My last car came with mud and snow tyres as OE equipment which I used all year round for 4 years so I'm not fussed about the tad of extra wear I might cause !! Quite pleased with the result.I know alloys look better but I prefer steels for the winter as heavier so more grip and they wear better. Before : During : And after adding a set of £23 wheel trims : Just need to get some stick on Skoda wheel centres. Any idea if that's possible ? Ta
  2. Well,I've done it-to hell with it. The jack worked fine with a block of wood. Took 40 minutes to fit all 4.Think they look ok with the wheel trims !! Before : During: After :
  3. I'm going to use a bit of wood-went to my local garage today and they said that the only safe jacking point is on the sills as you would use with the screw jack,so I'll use wood etc. Think I'm going to fit them next few days as going to busy with work and then laid up with a knee op so now or never. Not sure what the big fuss is waiting for the temperature to drop. I know the tyres work best in +7 degs and below but my previous car came with mud and snow tyres as OE fitment and they were on 24/7 all year for 4 years before I bought a second set of wheels.
  4. Thanks guys. I've looked in the manual and the only jack points shown are the sills and I haven't got the tools to cut a groove in a puck. Only bought the trolley jack as I read on here in the winter tyres thread that a trolley jack was much better and easier to use than the screw jack and sill method. Damn-looks like I'll have to go back to Plan A. Anybody want a nice unopened trolley jack ??
  5. I've got my nice new TS850 winter tyres and steel rims ready to put ion my Superb Estate when the temperature drops a tad . I bought a trolley jack to make the job easier but can't seem to find the jacking point . Apart from the jack point for the screw jack , all the area in the immediate surround seems to be plastic fascia and protection . Is there a marked area designed for a trolley jack ? 6. Sorry for not replying but I've been abroad for a few days. Wifey is now back and it seems to be working ok,but for one thing. Can someone tell me this-in normal use is there a red ring around the car's actual position ,as in some of the screen shots above? I thought it was normally green, but then I've only had the car a few months and haven't used the sat nav enough to be used to it. Thanks again for all the help and advice-she came home the 300 miles using her iphone and Google Maps !!
  7. Ditto. Got the same tyres from mytyres for my Superb,as the TS850 seems to win every award going. I do note on Conti's website that the TS850 is for 'compact and mid-size cars.See http://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/www/tyres_uk_en/themes/car-tyres/winter-tyres/contiwintercontact-ts850.html]here'>http://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/www/tyres_uk_en/themes/car-tyres/winter-tyres/contiwintercontact-ts850.html]here. But I guess the 94 load rating makes it ok for the Superb ?
  8. Thanks for all the help !! I've given up and told her to use her iPhone !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  9. They just tried this but it just zooms in on the red circle. They are now in Padstow but the bloody map is still showing Plymouth !!

  11. Or get a set of rims/tyres complete from MyTyres Click on the "Wheel and Tyre packages" in left hand menu. They have alloy or steel rims. I went for a set of steels fitted with Continental TS850 tyres 205/55 R16 for my Superb. They work out at £148 per wheel plus £9.90 p and p so £635 all in delivered. The tyres themselves are about £100 each at the cheapest places online so the rims are less than £50 each. The tyres are quite pricey due to the 94 load rating on the Superb but the 850s are supposedly the best winter tyres going,in most of the reviews such as here in Auto Express I considered alloys but steels are much better in the winter as the extra weight make the car more planted and they are stonger in pot holes and won't corrode in salt like alloys. The wheels arrived in a week from Germany. Then I bought these wheel trims.

  15. Guys, gals, Can you please help ? My wife has gone off down to Devon for the weekend to see her son at uni and has taken her mother and sons. Car is a 62 plate Superb Elegance 170 DSG Estate Stupid mother has played with sat nav and now the map won't move. There is a red circle around the current position but map is frozen though nav guidance continues via voice and maxidot guidance. She has entered a new route etc but still frozen. Without being there I can't see what she's done and I've only had the car a month and haven't seen this problem myself. Ta for any help !!! Here's a screenshot of the map :
  16. I had one for 4 years until earlier this year.Should never have sold it. Was amazing in the snow-impossible to get stuck and believe me I tried. Mine was the Multijet diesel and I had it chipped so it made about 100 bhp yet would return 55-60 mpg.
  17. The previous owner nicked that too but my dealer is getting me another Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  18. Thanks guys. I'll chase the dealer !!
  19. Possibly a stupid question !!! I've just bought a used 2013 Superb Estate Elegance 170 DSG from a Skoda dealer. Should it come with the umbrella in rear left door ? It's not there so has the dealer nicked it or was it an optional extra ? Ta
  20. I've bitten the bullet and ordered the TS850s after reading this article
  21. Ref my above post,I see that the 94H rated tyres are £10 cheaper than the Vs.As the latter are rated to 240kmh as opposed to 210 for the former, surely the Hs will be fine ? Ta again
  22. Hi guys (and girls). I've just signed up to the forum having bought a 2013 Superb Elegance Estate 170 DSG last month. I'm very pleased with the car but would like to get some winter tyres on steel rims as I'm going to miss not having my 4x4 which went to be replaced by the Superb. As above,my car is fitted with 225/40 R18 alloys/tyres. I've previously used MyTyres.co.uk but when I put my car details in I get : I went for the 4th one down, ie 3t 1968cm 125kw 09.2009 etc etc Is that correct ? And then the only options seem to be a 16" rim fitted with 205/55 R16. They have Conti WinterContact TS 850s for £167 for complete wheel/tyre and the Goodyear UltraGrip 8s for £158. Is that a good price with rims as well or would you recommend something else as they have much choice ? I live in West Sussex so we don't get a huge amount of snow but I would have been cut off in our village for a few days each of the last few years without my previous 4x4 fitted with M and S tyres. Ta for any advice. PS, My car doesnt seem to have a spare, just a can of that silly spray stuff. Why do some Superbs have a spare and some don't ?
