Car rear ended by disqualified driver - advice required
samj2013 replied to biglunn's topic in Insurance & Legal Issues
Without being an automotive engineer, I couldn't tell you exactly what the bar is actually supposed to do, but sounds to me like the ideal parts of the car took the force of the impact (the boot, the underside), and left you, your partner and your little'un safe! I think it's probably pretty safe to say it's a write off, and that's no bad thing to say it did what it was meant to do and kept you guys safe -

Surely that's just the crumple zones doing their job?... -
Renewal Time Approaching - Good Riddance Adrian Flux

Could you not have just cancelled the policy and taken out insurance elsewhere? I'm with Chris Knott currently, on my octy tdi 110 with suspension mods, and as a driver with only 1 year experience and NCD, they quoted me less than AF did for your tdi 90. Give them a ring! -
Chap in the garage the other week complimented me on my Octy looking really well looked after and just generally being a nice car. Only had the car a week or so at that point and nobody had ever bothered to compliment me on my old fabia, so I was made up! Loving this car, feels so good for a car of its age, I wouldn't believe it's 13 years old with 135k on the clock. Not like my mate's Picasso, you can tell it's old and knackered.

Took a few snaps of mine this morning while on my dad's drive, needs a clean, and I think the arse is sitting a little too low really... I want to get a small boot lip spoiler as well, break up the boot lid a little.

My Standard Octavia Mk1 2005 Black Magic

Beautiful! Looks like it's in really good nick. -
What did you do to your Skoda today?
samj2013 replied to RobClubley's topic in General Automotive Chat
Fitted a cupholder next to the handbrake, woo! (took me a good hour, i couldn't figure out why the bloody thing wouldn't go back in, turned out I just needed to cut out some carpet...) Also replaced the catch on my armrest lid so it actually closes. Just the little things that make daily life a bit more pleasant! -

New battery yesterday (annoying) so treated myself after and fitted my new front indicator lamp as the old one was full of condensation. Need the right one to match now though, as the old one all mucky and horrible round the edges! Maybe I'll see if I can clean it... Replaced a couple of bits of missing trim today, giving the old girl a bit of tlc. She's getting there might give her a proper good wash after the weekend. -
Ahh I see, cheers. Bit daft that really.

Same here, £130 a year, TDI 110. Is the tax higher simply if registered before 2001?
-
Yeah, I've heard the heat gun treatment works well. Might get round to doing it to mine at some point. The other alternative would be to colour code them, I think they look rubbish in black anyway.
-
Definitely not I don't like to have any little niggles under there.
-
Yep, there's lots of stuff under the bonnet in my Octy, not sure what half of it is! That won't stop me having a fiddle though
-
Cheers, think I'll give it a miss then! I bet haha, nothing like a bit of utilitarianism though One of those things with a 1.9 tdi engine, 4wd and big suspension/wheels and off road tyres would be awesome, haha.
-
Pretty much! haha. MPI is simpler though. that's the only upside I can think of :p
-
Not quite double the power, but more than double the torque. Makes that power much more usable
-
That's fair, I prefer the look of the estate and that's what I'd have gone for given the choice, but for what I paid for mine, I'm not going to complain! Get the PD 110 engine if you can, knocks the socks off the MPI
-
Cool Felicia I wouldn't mind one of those, would make a cool little rig for mountain biking! Did you tint the windows on the Fabia yourself? If so, what did you use, and was it easy? I'd like to tint the windows on my Octy, but I'm on a very limited budget! The Fabia looks very nice by the way, tastefully done
-
That's fair, I only had mine for a year, around 12k miles. Loved it, but I don't think I could go back to something with less power now! That 1.9 tdi engine just has so much torque, feels like a train! I quite fancied an estate, the hatch is huge though, suits my needs nicely, and I'm getting roof bars for my bikes anyway, so makes no real difference unless you wanna carry really big stuff in the back. Admittedly the octy is a bit more of a pain around town than the Fabia - could just fling that thing around. So much more comfortable for longer journeys though.

Get those headlights polished up buddy

Those mk2 fabia alloys look really good on this thing. I recently got rid of my fabia mpi :( juuuuust before it clocked over to 100k! Got my mk1 Octy 1.9 TDI 110 now and it doesn't half pull! By comparison to the fabia at least. Also, the hatch is much more spacious than you'd think.

BBC Watchdog. Fiat 500 that has no poke to climb a hill.

My thoughts exactly, change bloody gear!!! She was just sat in the bloody thing not revving at all, well of course it's not going to get up the hill being driven like that!
