It could be an engine mount or exhaust mount.

I would start by checking the alternator, it could be an unstable and electrically noisy output.

Thanks for the clear tutorial, I will have a go at most things but I am not sure that I have guts to drill holes into the roof!

It is a good point about safety, as we can attest to in February the locks are effectively part of the crash structure.

It sounds very much like our 2008 Roomster, in the end last summer I replaced that lock with a brand new unit that I imported from Slovakia for around €120, I was quoted by a local dealer £220 for just the lock. Second hand parts are not that cheap considering they are likely to show the same issue at some point, although in hindsight second hand would have been a better option as the car was written off in February. Some eBay sellers will list a Fabia lock as being suitable for the Roomster – it is not, although the main part of the lock is the same there is a difference in the latch. I guess it would be possible to put new internals into the old lock.

It is possible that you may be able to open the door by sitting in the car and locking the doors with the central locking button, then press the C/L button whilst pulling on the internal door latch – if this doesn’t work try it with engine running. This may get the door open so that you can inspect the wires that go from the body to the door. If the wires look OK then you may need a new door lock.

Sorry a bit late in replying to this. We had exactly the same issue with rear driver’s side door lock (no issue with the windows) on our 08 Roomster, I found that I could unlock the door from the inside if I timed pressing the unlock button on the centre console simultaneously with pulling the door latch. I concluded that I needed a new lock, I’ve seen new units in the UK priced at around the £200 mark and some of the second hand prices are around £70 for a lock that may not be any better. In the end 6 months ago I imported a new unit from Slovakia for around €100. This solved the problem but sadly that door and I guess lock were destroyed when the car was written off a few weeks ago.

Having started to look for a replacement Roomster for our written off Roomster there are hardly any available, I’ve come to conclusion that people do hold on to them.

Sadly, our beloved Roomster was T-boned at speed this morning, my respect for the car continued until the end as we all walked away with just bruising. It is without doubt the best car I’ve owned.
